GRAPHICS CARD
I'm trying to play Dark Souls 3 however my integrated graphics card is not good enough...

So I want to switch to my computers dedicated graphics card (Radeon) and so I read somewhere that by going into the device manager> Display adapters> disabling the integrated graphics card (the Intel, in this case)

will switch my computer over to the dedicated graphics card..

I just wanted to see if you guys could confirm if this works because I'd rather not screw up my display haha.

Yes it works. Providing you have the drivers installed for it.

If in the device manager I click update driver software and it says everything is good then the drivers are up to date?

The only reason im asking is because I've had a bit of a problem where I updated my drivers and afterwards, when I went to AMD Radeon settings/control panel, it pops up with th error "Radeon settings are currently not available. Please try again after connecting AMD graphics"...This was a bit concerning and so now I cannot access the control panel. Online fixes did not help so I'm just a bit hesitant to brute force my way into switching graphics cards.
It depends on whether you have a yellow exclaimation mark by it. If there isn't one then it's fine.
This is the way you should get drivers: https://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Why do you think your integrated gpu is causing problems?

There isn't one, I just want to access the settings to optimize some stuff and it's concerning that I can't access them...

At first i started up DS3 and i could barely move, there was immense FPS stuttering and lag and drop. Minimal settings changed nothing. I looked up stuff online and it looked like others had this problem too but their solutions didn't help. Before doing anything else I made a thread on the DS3 forums to see if my specs could even run the game (I don't have a very good rig)... Everything checked out fine EXCEPT the integrated graphics card (intel HD 4600, I believe) which is far below par. The people in the thread notified me of this and so I decided to try and switch to my dedicated graphics card (AMD Radeon R9 200)... After updating the drivers, It wouldn't let me access my settings and so thats the fine pickle im in now.

Have you connected the monitor to the graphics card? If you were using integrated on a desktop then youll need to switch the cable to the dedicated card.

I believe its all connected already... That I can just go into the BIOS (or in this case, the device manager and disable the integrated card) and switch cards. This isn't a pre-built computer manufactured by a company, if thats what youre asking.
I just dont want to hit a wrong button and do some irreversable damage.
That isnt was i was asking no, Is the computer a desktop or laptop?

If its a desktop then the cable where you physically connect the monitor to the computer has to be moved.

I'm not a very tech-savvy person haha but to answer your question, this is a desktop. I don't see where a cable has to be moved, everything has been connected from the beginning....

EDIT: if the dedicated card wasn't connected, how would my computer detect it anyways?

You cant access dedicated graphics via the integrated graphics port. Take a look at the back of your pc. You'll see a few ports to connect the display on the motherboard and if you have a dedicated graphics card then the ports to connect the monitor are there. Lower down on the back of the pc from the main ports.
The dedicated card is connected to the motherboard.

You should be able to see if your monitor cable is plugged in to the lower part where the gpu often is or the upper part of where the motherboard is. If the cable is vertical then it is plugged in the motherboard aka intergrated card probably.
I've taken an image for you. Notice the HDMI and DVI are connected to the graphics card and not the motherboard.

This is indeed the case... I guess it is hooked up to the mother board. So I reconnect everything to the horizontal port near the bottom of the computer? Alright I see it on the computer now... Thank you for that :D

So if I switch my HDMI cable to the horizontal port that will connect up with the dedicated graphics card... Do I also have to disable the integrated graphics card in device managers or will it automatically switch with the changing of ports?
A Nugget :D lähetti viestin:

Just plug it in and go, no need to disable stuff. Maybe you need to change the resolution of your screen in windows but it should just work.

If it doesn't work just plug it back and troubleshoot.
