Add your "Physical" game to Steam-library
Straight to the quesion. Can I download a game for free if I have the original game and the product-key?

Do you mean some sort of piracy? - No, then.

But if you mean that you have a disk with CD-key, then yes - you can activate the game in Steam and download it.

It´s alright. I have purchased the game. I found out you can activate it on steam through the Games menu. Just the problem it´s that I have an iMac with no cd-driver. See if I can find the key in installer from my pc. Thanks.

You don't need the disc, just the key. After the activation you can just download it from the Steam servers.
