Family sharing not working: "we've discovered the owner has already authorized this device for game sharing"
I created a steam account for my kids on my downstairs linux computer, but I've not been able to get it to work. I've followed all the official instructions multiple times, reset steam on linux machine and lots of other stuff. The programs I want them to be able to play have been approved on my account.

It always works like this: if you try to open a game on the linux machine under my girl's new account, Steams says we need to request permission, and when we click on that button, it almost instantly says "we've discovered the owner has already authorized this device for game sharing" with an "ok" button, and when you click "ok," that's it--nothing runs.

Based on my searching of forums, I'm not the first person to run into this, but I've not found a solution anywhere. Can someone please help with this?

Linux Mint Cinnamon, in case it matters.

Same problem here, latest Steam client, Ubuntu 16.04 x64. It stopped working about hall-year ago still on Ubuntu 14.04, but it was certainly working before.

Have you tried posting here?

http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/

Maybe search the discussions in Steam OS group or Steam for Linux. In help & Tips it's usually pre-boot game troubleshooting and steam account related issues.

Not saying that you're wrong to post here (If you don't know where to post, you're generally okay in help & tips, expect redirections.)

I've been busy, but I started a conversation with Valve tech support and actually got a response. When I follow through on their suggestions and start the back-and-forth of help, I'll post here to let people know what happens. I don't know for sure when that's going to happen because I'm away from home right now. Thanks for the suggestion, sm0

@Frooples:
Any news?

Yeah. Basically: we're aware of the problem. No solution. Then I remembered how many games I've purchased over the years off of Humble Bundle, and those things don't require Steam (at least, most don't), so I installed those instead of waiting for Steam to fix the problem.

Sorry I don't have a better answer.
