Assassin's Creed IV - Black Flag / Error: Failed to contact key server
I just bought this game on sale. Now, after it has completed downloading, I can't launch the game.

Error: Failed to contact key server

My internet connection is fine. How do I fix this?

Thanks

Steam is currently out of keys for a lot of Ubisoft games. They are waiting for a new batch from Ubisoft. Give it a bit of time.

Yeah, that's what I thought. It's a shame that Valve will sell us the game, even if they're out of keys. If I buy the game now, I want to play it now.

But whatever, I guess i'll have to wait.

Assassins Creed Black Flag sign in key
So recently, my girlfriend bought AC IV. However when she tried to install it it asked her for the sign in key, i personally own the game and got my code instantly. it's been almost a day now ad she still isn't able to play, she even contacted steam and ubisoft personally and hasn't had the code yet. if you don't know what i'm talking about its the ****-****-****-**** code you're given when you install a ubisoft game, is there any way she can receive a key code to play the game. she really likes pirates okay help pls

so i just need to wait until steam can give me a product key?

I have the same problem and looked around a bit. It seems steam have just run out of keys to give away, which means they'll need to get some new ones from Ubi.
So she will get it when there is a restock, no worries.
This apparently is not so uncommon during sales in which people may buy more copies than steam can actually supply. Tends to happen to the aaa games due to high demand

This is what I could gather at least

It seems that way, yeah.

I just bought it, downloaded, installed it, registered it and played it. Either they got a fresh batch of keys, or something else is/was the problem.

Edit: Might be a regional thing too, Europe for me.

Huh, that's weird. I'm from Europe too (Belgium).

Thank you for contacting Ubisoft Customer Support. Recently, there have been some changes to the way activation from Steam works. Games are now automatically redeemed to your account on first run, but in order to get this to work on your account you'll have to follow the instructions below:

1. Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC simultaneously on your keyboard to open the Task Manager.
2. In the "Processes" tab, select and close the "UbisoftGameLauncher.exe" process.
3. After closing the process, uninstall the Uplay client from your PC. You can find the uninstaller for Uplay in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher" if it is installed to the default directory. The uninstaller is named "Uninstall.exe".
4. Now you'll want to download and install the latest version of Uplay from http://uplay.com/ by clicking the "Download Uplay PC" button in the bottom-left corner of the page.
5. Now that Uplay is reinstalled, try launching your game. Ideally, it should not prompt you for an activation key again.

Hope this helps

thank you for your reply, but I do not even have a Ubisoft directory on my computer. Thus, I am unable to follow your instructions.

Edit: I downloaded and installed Uplay, but I still get the same error when launching the game in Steam.

I got a key today YAYYYY

I assumed the game does not appear in U- Play when launchedt.Try verifying the cache from steam if ok then you can try going to ubisoft and make out a support ticket. This is a common thing when a huge sale is going on and it would not hurt to do so. You need U Play to confirm the purchase thru Steam anyway's you might get one sooner who knows? Just a thought try activating the game thru U Play and not steam after verifying the game cache . With the new activating method it should not ask for a key. I just downloaded AC Syndicate and in the column on the right they no longer have a cd key selection listed.
