Can't buy bundle as a gift
Hi. Did Steam change something about buying gifts? I'm trying to buy Half-Life Complete as a gift for a friend and it says "the contents of Half-Life Complete are personalized for your account, it cannot be purchased as a gift".
I know that bundles now exclude items you already own while maintaing discount. However I don't own any of games from this bundle. Is it a bug? Should I ask Steam support?

Sadly, I have also had this experience with bundles where I own none of the games. It appears that it applies to any bundle where the price changes based on what you own, even if you don't own any of it. I don't know if this is intentional or not.

Well, it allows me to buy, for example, a gift bundle of Mount and Blade - for which I own all but one DLC. Also no problem with other bundles I own nothing of, like Orange Box or Call of Duty packs. I think it's bugged.

Yeah this is a pain. I wanted to buy the Bioshock triple pack for a friend but it tells me I can't add it to my cart because I already own everything in the bundle.

Not all bundles discount based on what you already own. I suspect this only occurs for bundles that do, as the message suggests.

That explains a bit, thanks.
But I don't see why this "personalized discount" fetaure can't be just turned off for buying gifts. The gifts should not include any personalization by definiton, right?

In an ideal world, maybe users could add personalized bundles to their wishlist and you could buy such "personalized gift" for only that user.
But I am not asking of it. I just wanted to buy gift for a friend. AFAIK you could do that before as Steam support page still says that person receiving a gift will not receive extra copies of items from a bundle if they own it. And that's fine.

Is there any chance that it would be fixed?

I agree that you should be able to buy the bundle at a normal, non-discounted price as a gift, especially if you don't own any of the content. I don't think Steam is likely to change it, since the feature appears to be intentional rather than a bug. You could contact Steam and let them know you don't like this feature, but you will probably just get an autoresponse.

can you purchase the bundle and store it in your inventory?

No, unfortunately. The option to purchase as gift is blocked entirely.

I know I am extremely late to reply, but I thought I could give somewhat of a solution, what worked for me was using Google Chrome, then going incognito, I would then copy and paste the link of the bundle I want to gift, and go to the page using incognito mode. The add to cart would not be inaccessible or grayed out. I add it, then only do I log in to my account and I am able to purchase it. Hope it helps.

It seems to depend on what type of bundle it is in. When it's in personalised bundle, it's good for you and bad for gifting. When it's in regular bundle, it's bad for you but good for gifting. In order to please everyone, it should be in both type of bundles at the same time. I have seen games in several personalised bundles but i think never in both personalised and nonpersonalised types at the same time.

Add to cart is grayed out only if you own all the items in the bundle. Yes you can purchase it but the problem is gifting given items. Getting the games you already own twice won't help anyone.

Dynamic/tailored bundles can not be gifted.

Talk to the publisher if you want a bundle that can be gifted.

This is extremely frustrating for me as I am buying several RPG Maker bundles, not for me, but for my Fiancee, and the price difference without the bundles is significant.
