Screenshots not working
They used to work when pressing F12 but not anymore. F12 is the default hot-key for screenshots. I have no other hot-key mapped to F12 but in game, pressing F12 does not capture the screenshot and save to the steam screenshots folder in any/every game I play. Ideas?

I do have that setting enabled. Also if I go to Steam>Settings>In-Game
"When a screenshot is taken
Display a notification. Check.
Play a sound. Check.
Save an uncompressed copy." No check.
Yet still no screenshot.

But the problem isn't the screenshots showing up, it's when I press F12 (or any other button), it won't register a screenshot.

Are you sure F12 is bound to take a screenshot in Settings > In-Game?
I've seen complaints that it's happened to some people after an update that the key binding either got erased and was blank or changed to a different key.

Is this happening in a game you purchased through Steam?
Some games you manually add that are stand-alone versions you got from somewhere else and use Steam to launch...some Steam features, screenshots is one of them, won't work with a game you've added that wasn't purchased through Steam.

Are you using a laptop? Or a non-standard keyboard?
Most laptops have a Function Key (Fn) that needs to be pressed to use the Function keys (F1 through F12). If you're using a laptop or non-standard keyboard for a desktop that has a function key you have to press the Fn+F12 to take a screenshot, otherwise the key for F12 won't register as being pressed.

If your keyboard has a function key they're usually between the Left CTRL and WinKey.

^^ good point about laptop function keys.

Also noteworthy: are you in Big Picture mode? May make a difference, I don't know I don't use it.
I changed it from F12 to F1, still no change, F1 to Z, still no change. Changed it from Z to F12, again no change. It happens to all my steam games. I have a windows computer with a monitor and a actual computer, qwerty setup on my keyboard. I am not in big picture mode.

You might have a Windows error but I'm not going to resort to saying that's definitely what it is, yet.

What country are you in and what is your native language? That does matter, so please provide that info.

Is it doing this in all games or just some games?
It does it in all games. I live in the US and my native language is English American.
And did you actually go look for the screenshots in the userdata folders, as I recommended? Because I can almost guarantee that they're in there, and you haven't looked.

When you say "yes it is" do you mean yes you are using Big Picture mode? Please be very specific when you are answering these things, as each question and move is very, very important to troubleshooting.
I looked in the screenshot folders still no new screenshots. Also I am not using big picture mode.
What happens when you go to View > Screenshots?
Are they there? There's a drop down at the top left of the screen where you can look at screenshots categorized by game title or 'last session'.
Is anything in the screenshot uploader?
Nothing new is there. I think the problem is that steam doesn't register F12 even when I press it because F12 works outside of steam.

Have you maybe tried updating drivers for your keyboard? Do you have any other devices that you have Steam on, that might help troubleshoot - if it's account settings that's one thing, if it's something in the OS it might be another.
No I don't have other devices that have steam.

Do you happen to have Libre Office (Writer, Calc), or MS Excel, or Notepad ++?
I'm asking because I'd like you to test whether the key is actually working or not to test to see if it's the keyboard.

In Libre Office Writer F12 opens the Insert Table Dialog.
In Libre Office Calc F12 opens the Group dialog (rows, columns)
In MS Excel F12 opens the Save As dialog.
In Notepad ++ F12 toggles fullscreen mode.

Test the key in another program, please, to make sure the key on the keyboard is working.

All keyboards work on generic drivers. It's not impossible it's a driver issue but it's more likely a Windows issue, or something with Steam.

If the F12 key does not work in other programs it's time for a new keyboard.

If the key on the keyboard works in other programs Uninstall and Re-install the Steam Client. You don't have to uninstall and re-install all of your games you can just uninstall the client through Windows. When you re-install the client if your games are not there at all (they might be grayed out if they are) you might have to go to Settings > Downloads and tell Steam where your Library Folders are.
When your games show up in your library if they're grayed out all you have to do is click on them to launch them and Steam will run a validation process that's a lot quicker than downloading and re-installing all your games.

If re-installing Steam doesn't bring it back my guess is it's something with Windows. The best way to fix that is re-install Windows but there are ways to figure out what's causing it if you would want to spend time on it and do a bunch of geek tricks to fix what we find that's erroneous.

F12 works outside of steam.
(not all keyboards are generic, anything with lighting or fx, and most logitech ones have their own drivers...)

They might have their own drivers but they will run and work perfectly on generic drivers. I have both a logitech wireless combo and a "gaming" keyboard that has several different colored LED's in it that light it up. Neither need any special drivers to work. LED's don't need drivers to work either, all they need is power which they get from the USB port.
