My steam will not update after fresh install

Re-enable Windows Firewall and look at what apps are listed in the Firewall settings and ensure Steam is still in there and allowed.

Disable Anti-Virus; then right click Steam.exe > click Run As Admin

Still no progress get the same error I did what you said no go

Do you have Steam Client as a Desktop Shortcut?
If not go to where Steam is installed; right click Steam.exe > Send To > Desktop (as Shortcut)
Then right click Steam shortcut on your Desktop and click Properties.
Under "Target" add -TCP to the end, which a space after \Steam.exe
Click OK to apply and close that out.
Then right click that desktop shortcut > Run As Admin

Try it like this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -TCP
-or-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe -TCP

But if Target has quotes; then the "Start In" line should also have those in the same way.
But the quotes shouldn't be needed.

And the reason to try this is simply because Steam uses "UDP" by default; and some ISP have issues using this connection method. So this -TCP switch forces Steam to launch using that protocol method. However the TCP switch only works when you using that shortcut that includes it.

Is this a new system?

Have you used Steam Client in this home (or on this ISP) before?

Because it may be that the ports Steam wishes to use, are being blocked by your ISP Modem/Router. Many of which have their own Firewall within their config; which might be block certain ports.

I have had steam installed in the past, it was not working so I had to uninstall and update it today. My brother can access steam and download games and install it, However I cannot I have no Idea why? could there be files still left on my system somewhere causing it to have issues?
