Downloads stop when idle
As the title says, my steam downloads stop after leaving the computer idle for a little while (10-15 min). The moment I move the mouse it goes back to full speed. By stop I mean, the download speed falls to 0, not steam stopping the download.

I turned off power saving and specificly checked that they don't turn off the hdd, but the problem persists.

Anyone have an idea what's going on.

It's been a while since I last downloaded anything sizeable, but it's never been a problem before.

maybe go into your browser and download some large file like a skyrim mod or something and see if it does the same thing. of course only for test purposes so you can delete the file afterwords

I'm gonna necro this because it's still happening.

Tried downloading a large file through firefox with no problem. Also no problem downloading stuff from battlenet.

Also tried limiting my download bandwidth and changing download region to no avail.

Got the same problem today. 5-10 minutes idle and steam download stops.

I have the same problem. I went to advance power options, changed "turn off hard disk after" to 'never' from '20 mins' in hard disk section. I thought it was causing the problem but it didn't solve anything.
edit: I also changed screen saver settings to none (it was set to blank), seems to have solved the problem
edit: NOTHING solved the problem for me as of now.

Just sarching the forum, as I have exactly the same issue. "10" minutes after i let my machine idle the download stops. I have checked but it isn't happening outside of steam, torrent is still running all night.

I think it's the problem with hard drive. Try defraging it

Same issue, new gaming computer. I think it's a steam issue and should have a option to disable it. Anyway, I will just play a game while it's downloading. (The issue doesn't occur if your actively giving input to the device).

my downloads stop when my laptop sleeps, not after a set time. when i leave it on, the downloads go on as normal.

edit: downloads cannot occur when in sleep mode, but i do not have an option to manually turn off my monitor, since its a laptop. I also dont want the screen to turn off after 5 minutes, so its an L for me.
