My tags and how to edit or remove them.
Hello everyone.

Back in 2014, when Steam created the user tag system, i used it for a while to tag some decent games, but most likely, the worst ones. I mainly used it to warn people about GFWL situations, P2W stuff, unoptimized / bad pc port games, etc. After the first week or so, the tech wasn't fresh anymore and for quite some time i didn't tag anything.
Things changed and a lot of games, including Borderlands, dropped the GFWL system and moved into Steamworks, as an example. I tried to edit or delete those outdated tags, and in most cases i succeded, but there are many of those tags that i have no idea what game they belong to. I would love to check those games in order to see if they improved and fix my tag or simply remove it.

Thing is, i find it impossible to achieve. There is no option, that i'm aware of, to delete my tags or even check what game they correspond to. Most of the times i have to remember what game i tagged 5 years ago and go to the store page in orther to edit or remove them. It's insane if this is the only option, because most games improved or changed over the years, and these obsolete tags are still on them.

Is there a way to remove my tags all at once or at least check wich game correspond to wich tag?
Thanks in advance!

Unfortunatly, no. I know those are the tags we want to hide while searching the store.
I'm talking about the user defined tags, the ones we can apply to a certain game, remove or edit, in the store page itself. Those tags are added to the tab "Your Tags" under
https://store.steampowered.com/tag/browse/

But thanks for the help, whatsoever.
Hey, i forgot about this topic.
Fortunatly i was able to track that menu option a while ago, but thank you nonetheless, it will help future users!
>Now you can go and check up on each game and remove the tags which no longer apply

And how exactly do I do this?

I go to the game's library and store page and I don't see anything about tags that I might have added.

Thanks

Hey!

I have an answer for you.

All the tags you applied, along with the name of each game you applied them to, are listed here: https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/AppUserTagVotes

Now you can go and check up on each game and remove the tags which no longer apply. :golden:

Cheers. :ale::BITRAY_JoyCube:

I have a question, how do you remove them if it says, "Apply a tag you've used on other products:" if it is only one game?

Thank you so much for this explanation, Toast! I had the exact same question as OP and am glad I was able to find this thread over a year after OP posted it.

In an effort to pay it forward, I think I may be able to help answer the three more recently posted questions:

If you follow these steps, then that should help you out:
  1. Click the link Toast initially provided to get to the page listing each tag you created and the games you applied those tags to.
  2. Keep this list handy somehow because you'll need to reference it constantly. You can leave it open in a separate tab, print it out, take a screenshot, copy and paste it into a Word document, whatever works for you.
  3. In a separate browser window, or the Steam app, navigate to the Steam store.
  4. Navigate to the store page of the first game on the list with the tags you want to remove.
  5. Open the user-defined tags window. If you don't know where it is - near the top of the game's store page, under the "Community Hub" link, there's an info box with the game's icon, description, release date, etc. At the bottom of the box, there's a section called "Popular user-defined tags for this product" If you applied a tag to a game, it'll be first on that list. Click the '+' over to the right which takes you to a window where you can "view and edit tags for" the game.
  6. Uncheck any tags you want to remove under "Tags you've applied to this product."
  7. Go back to the list of your tagged games, pull up the next game's store page, rinse and repeat.

Both of your questions should be answered by the step-by-step guide I laid out above (especially given that your first question is basically the same as ishikagupta139's). Steps 5 and 6 specifically should address your second question/issue - after you've tried it, please provide an update in this thread to let us know how it goes!

The short answer is you can't remove that type of tag because it hasn't been applied to the game in the first place.

To elaborate on that a bit, let's say you've tagged Game A as 'Scary,' Game B as 'Funny,' and Game C as 'Boring.' Now, you want to remove all your tags from Game A. On Game A's store page, in the user-defined tags window under the heading "Tags you've applied to this product," you'll see 'Scary.' Below that, under the heading you're referencing ("Apply a tag you've used on other products"), you'll see 'Funny' and 'Boring'. In this scenario, you can only remove the 'Scary' tag, because it's the only tag you applied to the game. The 'Funny' and 'Boring' tags are more like suggested tags to add to Game A because you've applied them to other games (but not this one, which is why you can't remove them).

Please provide an update with how that goes! Hopefully this helps solve your tag-related problems like it did mine :happyrv:

This seems to work as long as the tagged game is still available on Steam Store. If not, it doesn't as there is no page to add/remove tags.
Currently the page https://store.steampowered.com/tag/browse/ shows my tags, but all of them yield an empty list, even though https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/AppUserTagVotes shows that I have many games tagged with custom tags.

I think what OP meant by "I have a question, how do you remove them if it says, "Apply a tag you've used on other products:" if it is only one game? " is how to delete a tab, i.e completely remove it from the vocabulary, if one wishes no longer to apply this tag to anything anymore.

When I started using Steam, I also used tags on games. At that time, I thought there would be a way for me to filter games based on the tags I had added, that doesn't involve manually searching for their names from a list. For example by applying them in store filters, or by clicking one of my tags to get a list of games that apply to it.

I think Steam's implementation of folk taxonomy is not useful, at its current state.

Bless you, I'm finally free of those worthless tags I added when the system was new.
So there isn’t a way to remove the your steam tag section?

Unfortunately no.
I'll search about this the next days, at the time i was able to remove all my user tags with ease, but it's been so long i already forgot.
I'll keep you posted in the next days please.
Busy life :)
You can't remove the whole section, but you can remove tags from games that you've previously tagged. Go to this page to see the list and use the instructions in the posts above to remove them from each game.
