Steam Store Illegal Sales on NVIDIA Sheild
My girlfriend owns an NVIDIA shield, she purchases her games from Steam. Recently NVIDIA has restricted the play of the majority of games on GeForce Now stating "sorry this game isn't supported on GeForce Now" this is from within the steam app.

You have allowed the restriction of certain games on the Steamworks platform, but continue to sell games that are then unplayable by these customers.

This is Illegal in the UK to offer products for sale that are unusable to customers. With out forewarning the customer that this game is unplayable, you allow the purchase of these games.

You should either.

A) block the purchase of unsupported Steam Games

Or

B) restrict the steam store completely on the NVIDIA shield.

My girlfriend is furious and so am I and we will be in touch with trading standards on Monday.

You should not be selling digital products on a platform that does not allow the user to play them. Especially without giving written notification that the games we are purchasing are unplayable.

The issue you are having is with Nvidia.

The Steam games can still be used on the PC client.

No it is not, Steam is selling games for a restricted platform, it is the Steam app that is being allowed to be restricted from NVIDIA. The store should not be allowed to sell games that are unplayable. It is now a guessing game as to which game you purchase is restricted or not restricted. If the Steam app allows the restriction of play of these games, they should also restrict the purchase of them.
Nvidia added the restrictions not Valve.

Your issue is with Nvidia.

Yes but if you purchased an Android Phone and you bought a App of the Google Play store and opened the app and it said "Sorry this app is restricted to IOS devices only ? You would say, yes that is fine ?

Terrible analogy.

You still are able to use the app, correct?

Just can't play all games due to Nvidia restricting them, correct?

Take it up with Nvidia.

You can also play unsupported games through the manage steam option in the menu to the top right corner, However, the game will take 10-20 minutes to install and your progress will not be saved

Let me Explain. Steam Commonworks is a modified version of Steam built by Valve that runs on he Geforce Now service. This Steam app can be opened from within the main menu of the NVIDIA shield device. The Steam app used to let you access all games you have on Steam. This wasn't a problem previously as you could buy any game from the steam store and play it on your Geforce Now account. Valve has now allowed companies to restrict the play of certain games on the platform.

But have not modified the app to restrict the purchase of restricted games. So when i open the steam app, i am presented with advertisements for games that are unplayable.

If the Steam app restricted the purchase of the games, this wouldn't be a problem. But it doesn't. It allows the purchase of all games but restricts the play of certain games.

If somebody only owns a NVIDIA shield, they can purchase games from the Steam store only to be presented with. Warning after the purchase that they can't play the game. There is no list of games that are / not playable so its now a guessing game if the game you purchase is going to work.

This is illegal in the UK and needs to be changed. When purchasing a product, you should be notified that the game will not be playable before you pay.

If it said warning this game is not playable on this platform would you like to proceed ? It would be fine. But it doesn't..

No because its Steam that are selling the games. They shouldn't be selling games on a modified version if their store that will not work with that platform..

Make a post in the thread I linked and talk to the Nvidia moderator about their decision to remove some games.

Steam games are tied to the account. That account can be used on multiple platforms. The games can still be played on the appropriate platform.

It has nothing to do with NVIDIA, I'm not bothered about the restriction of games. I'm commenting on a piece of software called Steam which has a Valve logo on, which when i purchase a game 33% of the proceeds go to Valve. Which is ran by Valve. Which allows the restriction of playing of games by 3rd parties but does not restrict the purchasing of games on the Steam platform. It has got nothing to do with NVIDIA

Everything you are talking about has to do with Nvidia removing games from the availability list.

Valve does not have any say in the matter.

TALK TO Nvidia.

:qr:
It is within a 3rd party edition of the Steam app, are you telling me Valve have no control over the Steam app ?

Valve has no say/control over the availability of games in GeForceNOW, no.
