I want to get a free patch for a game but it asks me my address. Why would it need my address for a small download?

Nothing to do with Steam.
All patches on Steam are delivered through the Steamclient and don't require any personal information.

Beware of unofficial third party websites which may try to steal personal information and/or deliver malware.

Take it up with the game dev / publisher, because if you need get access to something that outside of steam that not steam related, and not much can be done about it either.

It's up to you to decide whether it's trusted (by you). The question is, rather, whether it's trustworthy. And that's where I'd disagree, if they want your physical address to download something, that's weird.

Old topic, but Kagura Games is a publisher of adult games. They frequently offer free R18 patches to their titles not allowed to have that content released on steam. In the past before steam allowed adult content, this was the 18+ patches. You can download patches from their site without an account by going to the relevant patch tab and using their mirrors. Or register to have it in your kagura account.

Also, shops often ask for an address, just because that's what their system does. You can just put whatever there -- although I generally like to make it obvious, like using the field labels -- so I'd be named "first name" and "last name", live in "street" in the city "city" with a zip-code 12345; stuff like that.
