Remote Play is not working after update
Hey, I can no longer start games via Remote Play. I get the following error:

Something went wrong while displaying this content. Refresh
Error Reference: Library_7668455_5f24d6ddd9f44727
Cannot read property 'TakeFocus' of undefined

Both client and host devices have the latest steam version from 16th of November.
Right before the update I launched "To the moon" from my library via Remote Play.
It seemed ok, though the cursor was missing in the main menu.
I cleared download cache and browser data. I don't know what else could be done.

Hey, I think I've found a solution that fixed the problem for me.
I had to invent smth, because Big Picture mode also ran into an error on my client device.

I looked through a few discussions in the "Remote Play" group @Bob mentioned above. Someone shared that they are using SteamLink App waiting for Remote Play to be fixed. I decided to try it out and suddenly Remote Play started working for me. I think SteamLink App installed some missing libraries or smth like this. Or maybe pairing the client and the host via SteamLink did the trick.

My steps:
1) Installed SteamLink App on the client device
2) Paired the client and the host devices (Stream -> Settings -> RemotePlay -> Pair Steam Link. The app will give you the code for the pairing)
3) Tried streaming via SteamLink (it was glitchy as hell)

Here I decided that it was not worth it, and shut the app down, but gave RemotePlay a shot (your normal "Stream" button). And suddenly it worked - now I can stream without launching SteamLink App.

I am not sure that Steps 2 and 3 are required, maybe just try installing first, and if that's not enough - pair the devices.

Good luck!

Thank you. Installing steamlink was enough.

The answer of support team is awesome

Along with reports submitted directly to Support, the Steam team uses a number of community sources to help investigate the frequency and severity of issues like this. These issues are continually being addressed through Steam Updates. Support does not provide any information on upcoming or planned fixes.

Again, I am sorry that we do not have a fix for you at this time.

For those who just joined, several options to solve the issue were offered in this discussion:

- start the game on the host device manually and then press "connect" on the client device
- use big picture mode
- install SteamLink app (it will provide some additional libraries, and RemotePlay will be fixed)

First 2 options did not work for me, personally, but for some people here they did the trick.

P.S. I cannot my mark my own comment as "reply", can someone repost it? :D

Same issue here. Worked perfectly for months and the latest update killed it.

Tried the workarounds but still no joy :(

In addition, if running on a Linux OS, close Steam and run in terminal 'steam -pipeline' seems to be a workaround for me with a little hit to performance for some reason

We now believe we have this working, but not as it was before.

We got a solution working with just three of us last night. This evening (30th Nov 2022) the full group of six plus GM is playing Star Wars RPG on TableTop Simulator.

There is a full explanation of how to get this working on another thread.

Basically both the Windows Host AND the Mac client need to load the latest version of Steam Link specifically for the respective operating systems.
(There are downloads for Android and Linux as well , but we have not tested those)

You then need to re-establish the paired connection across the internet between Mac and Windows PC using a privately shared authentication code generated by Steam Link on the Client and copied to Settings > Remote Play > Pair ...... on the host.
if all works well this evening. I will copy the complete post to this thread...

Note: Steam link will (apparently) automatically detect other Steam devices on the same LOCAL network. This originally made us believe that Steam Link was ONLY for local networks. Not so. As long as both client and host are logged in to the same Steam account the 4 digit authentication code will pair them across the internet.

Top marks for Valve in developing Steam Link. Zero marks for pushing out the upgrade without an effective publication of the method to get it working.

None of these actually fix the issue, though

Third option did the trick for me. RemotePlay is working even though I don't start SteamLink app. I, however, abandoned RemotePlay entirely, since I had discovered Moonlight - it's so much better.

SteamLink App doesn't appear to be available for MacOS, which is what was causing the whole issue to begin with. I'll look into Moonlight.

OK so here is what we did to get remote play working again.

1. You will need to download Steam Link on to you host machine.
For a Windows host use:
https://media.steampowered.com/steamlink/windows/latest/SteamLink.zip
Install Steam Link

2. Download the Steam Link App for you client machine.
For a Mac client use:-
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/steam-link/id1246969117
Install Steam Link

(The Steam-link App is the same whether client or host , the Win PC does not have to be the host)

3.Make sure you are logged in to Steam with the same account on both client and host

4. On the CLIENT, start Steam Link(Find this in your installed applications NOT Steam. i.e. for Win10 use the Windows key/icon and scroll down for "Steam Link"
If attempting to connect across the internet, Steam Link will show that it can see no other Steam devices/controllers. Click on the cog(settings) top right hand corner
Click on the computer icon
Click on "Other computer"
You should see a 4 digit PIN and a set of instructions.
Make a note of this PIN

5. On you HOST machine find "Settings" within the Steam app"(For Steam on Windows 10, "Settings" should be in a drop down menu under "Steam" or "View" top left of screen)
Click on Remote Play
Click on "Pair Steam Link"
Enter the PIN you obtained from the client
You should now see the client paired in the box above "Pair Steam Link"
Click on OK

6. Now go back to the client and find your game in Library
Click Play.
The game should now start on the host and stream to the client

Please provide feedback if this does (or does not) work.

Good Luck!

See, im getting this error, but for the wrong reason. I Have Raft install on both my PC and the Steamdeck, and No matter what I do, It always tries to stream it from my steamdeck to the PC. I cant go to the main page of Raft to change it back to play on my PC because that error keeps coming up.
