CS:GO kills GPU drivers??
Hello!
I've run into a really weird problem that only occurs when playing CS:GO.
When playing CS:GO my game freezes randomly and the sound repeats itself like a broken record, it can occur after one minute or fiften minutes give or take. If I alt-tab in and out of the game during the freezelag the game continues to run smoothly as soon as I'm in, but only for a minute or two, then it happens again, and again.

Sometimes the tabbing doesn't work so I have to open task-manager(CTRL-Alt-Delete) to get out into the desktop, however I can still tab right back into the game and have it run normally but just for a min or two.

If I'm fast when tabbing out to the desktop I can see the message that pops up in the right corner of the screen which says

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel mode driver version 340.52 (Yes I'm using the latest update atm) stopped responding and has successfully resolved.

I recently upgraded my CPU and MOBO but kept my GPU, which was working fine with my other CPU and Mobo when playing CS:GO these were a gigabyte 990FXA and AMD 8120.

My current PC-Specs are the following:

CPU: Intel i5 4690K
MOBO: Asus z97-a
GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 660
RAM: Corsair Vengance Pro 2133MHZ
PSU: Silver Power SP-600A2C (600W)
Storage: Samsung 840 Pro Series 250gb and a Samsung 7200rpm 1TB drive.

I have proper cooling including an Antec Kúler 620 water-cooler on my processor which never gets over 55c during load.
and addition to that 6-chassi fans with optimal airflow.

My temps when gaming usually go around
CPU: 45-55c
GPU:45-57c
Additional tempratures are pretty low.

Running Skyrim, DayZ, Left4Dead2 and Furmark Burntest is no problem. It is only CS:GO that seems to stirr things up with that nvidia kernel driver.

This is what I have tried so far.
I've run diagnostics including memtest for my ram, which are fine and came clean without any errors.

I've also run the intel diagnostics tool for my processor which passed all tests.

I've reinstalled CS:GO and tried it on both HDD's

I've tried to run it on both clean installs of Win7 and Win8.1 (And yes I have updated windows fully with service packs and additional updates.

I've tried to swap the GPU between the PCI-E-ports

I've tried different drivers including ones dating back to early 2013

I've installed only the Nvidia drivers without any of the other mumbo jumbo(GeForce Experience, HD Audio, etc etc)

I've run everything as an administrator before installing and launching.

I've turned on XMP profile in my bios.

If you know anything about this matter please, do tell. I'm getting sick of this problem.

PS: No overclocking has been done on any components.

Thanks!
/M

It's more like the video driver crashes and takes CS:GO with it. Games do not run on a software level where they usually could crash a video driver.

Have you tried older drivers? The latest are not always the best.

My solution to this was buying a new graphics card. However I think that the problem is caused and can be solved by switching your pci-e ports from 3.0 to 2.0

I've got the exact same problem but strangely only on one map (cs_workout in operation vanguard), that's VERY strange !!!! Every other map i can play as usual without any problems. Anybody who have suggestions other than buying a new graphics card ??
