Gifted games not working (SOLVED)
My friend gifted me a game yesterday, and another game today, and neither of them will run. I get the window that says it's running first time setup, (installing "msiexec") and then nothing happens. It tells my friends I'm playing the game, but the game does not pop up for me. Both of the games are doing this.
I have restarted my computer more than once, restarted steam, and tried to re-install the games, but I am still having the issue. All other games, old or new, run fine, it's only the gifted ones that won't run. I verified the integrity of the game files with no issues. I tried installing other games I've never run before and they went through the first time setup just fine and ran perfectly, even games that are just shared with me by other people.
The non-gifted games do not show that they are installing "msiexec", however; only the gifted ones have that show up. I believe the others showed they were installing direct-x.
I am running Windows 7 64bit.

What are the two gifted games?
Oh sorry, SpeedRunners and Mount Your Friends.
I attempted to go into my steam folder to run them directly, and run them as an admin, and still no luck. There is also no crash report to help figure out the issue, because there is no crash, the games simply do not open.
Nope, no luck.
I don't know then man, but I'll keep it on the back burner and let you know if I come up with anything. I'd say to focus on mount your friends since the other is an EAG.
What happens if you start them with the exe in their folder?
What happens if you install the things located in the redist folder of the game manually?
If I start them in the folder absolutely nothing happens, the first time setup doesn't even pop up.
I just tried installing those manually and there was no change.
In another forum with the same problem someone suggested downloading one of the redist files, but when I try to install the file it tells me "Access is denied". It's for the XNA Framework.
Try creating another account then use family sharing to play the games on the new account. If they don't work on the new account then it is probably an issue with your computer.
I've already verified the game cache.
And I think my sister has access to my games HLC, I'll try it on hers in a moment.
So it seems as if it's a problem with my computer. I went and downloaded the game onto my sister's computer, and it ran fine. Her computer is almost identical to mine, however, so I don't know what would be causing this.

What I was suggesting was to create another account and use family sharing to access the games while on your computer to make that determination.

Oh sorry, I forgot to say that I tried that as well, with no luck.
Have you tried temporarily disabling any security software (anti-virus, firewall,etc..) and running it as an admin?
