To anybody having updating/installation/network issues due to linksys ae6000 (or any usb using the wireless ralink mt7610u chipset):
I have found a driver that fixes the issue here: http://www.mediatek.com/en/downloads/usb/ You may need to uninstall the previous driver first. Allowed me to get on steam for the first time in a year.

Thank you thank you thank you. Been wrestling with this issue for hours! For other poor souls who are stuck with the AE6000 be sure to confirm that your new driver displays version 5.1.17.0
If the version displayed is 5.0.7.0 steam will not work. What's makes you pull the hair out of your skull is that the Linksys site only has 5.0.7.0 as the latest driver. The file I downloaded from the link displayed was corrupted but after googling it I found another site.

Some pop ups but I got a clean file. Be sure to uninstall the AE6000 drivers and install the new drivers with the device still plugged in. Restart the PC and you're good to go.
