Steam running 32bit on 64bit machine
Ever since the update that changed the Steam logo to the little blue circle, Steam has been launching (as well as all my games) in 32bit. I have 64bit hardware and OS, and before that update it would run in 64bit all the time.

Anyway to either force steam to run in 64bit or any fix? For some reason a bunch of other stuff, a bunch of other stuff runs in 32bit as well. I'm on Win8.1.

Most games(and other programs in general) run exclusively in 32-bit. Besides, an executable can only be 32-bit or 64-bit, not both at once or interchangably. So, since almost all games have only one executable, it can't just switch like that.

Besides, a 64-bit version of Steam does not exist and, quite honestly, it doesn't need to run in 64-bit mode as it could never exceed the memory usage to warrant it.

Strange, a bunch of my games haven't been running as well since the logo change.

Dota 2, which I'm certain does run in 64bit, has been running in 32bit for the last 2 weeks or so at least. Any ideas on why that is?

it is working
What tells you things had been running in 64 bit?

I typically just use Task Manager since when something is running in 32bit it says (32bit), and if it's running 64bit it doesn't say anthing else.

Is there a better tool?
Steam never ran 64bit.
Just install the games and play, i would say.

Nope. Before the update, Steam was 32 bit as well.

Yesterday I ran Blackguards 1 without any problems - today I try and run it and I get a black screen - It wont let me minimize or alt + tab out, have to start taskmanager. When taskmanager starts game starts playing sound and then crashes completely, taskmanager states blackguards is running in 32bit (which it never did before).
Any suggestions as to what is happening?
In 64-bit Windows you can tell if a game is 32-bit or 64-bit by whether its is in "Program Files" which would be 64-bit or "Program Files (x86)" which would be 32-bit.

But I play in Linux where steam client and most steam games are 32-bit, but some have both 32 and 64-bit versions (like Kentucky Route Zero) and some Linux games are 64-bit only (like XCom)

Wrong. Stem games by default land in (x86), yet several of them run in 64 bit. You still can tell, but not that way.
