Intrusion Attempt by Steam?
As the title says, when I've launched Steam twice now, my anti virus warned me that it blocked an intrusion attempt by my own computer. What's the reason behind this? Should I be concerned with a virus/trojan?

What's the antivirus you're using, if I may ask?
Norton 360 Premier Edition
What is the message?
discard that thing, norton is resource cosumer and love to make false positives all time, also detect things when you sistem is infected, just get a true antivirus.
See you!!!!!
Pretty much what I would await from Norton, the important is that their ego equals to the size of the sun.
Seriously, switch to something else, it slows your PC, pops up a lot of false positives and protection levels are mediocre at best.
MSE, Bitdefender Free, Avast - all are free yet perform better at the cost of less resources.
Honestly, paid antiviruses are not needed. Just get a free antivirus (good one of course) or if you are really computer savvy... You don't even need one.
If you have a legit copy of windows, Get microsoft security essentials it's free, Detects most virii about 97-99% of the time, And since it's built into the OS it interfaces with about anything connected to the net.

Also did I mention it's FREE and not Norton or Mcaffee?

Get microsoft security essentials
Never wondered why its called essentials?
Yeah I was expecting a lot of hate for Norton once I mentioned it lol, but it is all good. Truth be told it has done me good for the number of years I have had it.

However, anyways, Muppet, the message says, "An intrusion attempt by [the name of my computer] was blocked. The Severity of it is Medium.

Funny thing now is, when I launched Steam to see if I got any messages regarding this, it did not notify me of an intrusion. So, perhaps what Sucy said, it is a false positive.

There's a reason there's hate for it, they charge monthly or each years or w/e for something that should be free and it has more false positive than the usual antiviruses...

Since nobody here can honestly telly ou what malware is present on your system, nor what issues your particular FW etc. may have, the ONLY TRULY RELIABLE means to identify whether a particular identification may be a false positive, is to send the file responsible for the detection (you may need to check the firewall logs or ogtain some form of packet logging data), then send this to the relevant anti-virus company labs for analysis.

They shoulkd respond to you within a few days with their results and in most cases, if a false-positive, they will remove that particular detection from the blacklist.
Or check the file at - ready while you wait - www.virustotal.com where they use a variaty of 35 to 60 AV & AM to scan it.
Any real reason to bump a 2014 topic?
