Do deals such as the 2K Weekend happen often?
I'm new to using Steam after a long hiatus and I'm wondering if these types of deals happen often?

I'm about to drop a good amount of money onmy first gaming PC, so I can't really go crazy on buying a bunch of games because they're cheap, haha.

But at the same time, I don't want to miss out if this is rare.

Any suggestions/tips? :)

Publishers usually do have one weekend sale involving all their games every year, usually between the Summer and Winter sales.

Ah, okay. Are there sales on individual sales much, or only during special times of the year?

There are deals pretty much every day. There are also weekend deals, weeklong deals, midweek deals, special occasion deals like this 2K weekend, and the big sales events around Summer and Winter, and some shorter special event sales on occasion.

Then there are deals and sales events year round on other legitimate sites that povide Steam Keys. You can monitor those at isthereanydeal.com

Awesome, thanks. :) Sorry for the noob question, haha. I really haven't watched steam much at all. I'm so tempted to buy a bunch of games, but I'm shelling out about $1200 on a gaming PC. Borderlands 2 GOTY edition is dirt cheap though and I heard it's really, really good. I like games with story and adventure/action.

A bit off-topic, but if you're new to PC gaming and deals on games, check out this thread on the other Steam forums.

As for 2K in particular, everything on sale now will be on sale again in ~4 months when the winter sale happens. 2K is a big publisher with big name titles that always see discounts. And they've also had their titles in Humble bundles before, so seeing them in another bundle is also another possibility.

BL2 is tons of fun especially if you have friends. Since its free you can try it out before you want to commit, but I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Also a few tips
1) Add things to your STeam wishlist. This ensures Steam sends you an email when it goes on sale
2) Note that for #1 steam isnt' all that reliable :P HOwever 3rd party sites like www.isthereanydeal.com have much better tracking. Also they allow for thresholds for notificaions like "Only when this game hits $5 or 75%" that kind of thing.

Oh, didn't even realize it was free until Sunday. Will definitely have to test it out, then. I work until 3pm tomorrow, so I'll be able to get some time in. This isn't the super gaming PC, but it should be able to at least see what gameplay is like. :)
