How to Disable Game Updates?
Hi,

It seems that recently Steam changed the game updating process, and now in each game's properties there are only three seemingly identical options available ("Always keep up to date", "Only update game when I launch it" and "High priority -- always auto-update before I launch game").

Does anybody know of a way to get the old option of "Don't update game" back? I have a few games that I'm running with mods that I'd like to keep in their current version, as core updates to the games often cause mods to get broken/unplayable.

Thanks
Michael

If you don't want to update it, unistall the game... Otherwise just set it to "Only update game when I launch it"

Thanks, does that mean that "only update when I launch it" gives me the option to decline the update? Will see what happens next time an update is due.

Don't see how uninstalling would help -- I do still want to play the game. :-D

Yup, I think you can stop it, but then you won't be able to play it

I can't see why you wouldn't update the game... If you still want to play it, you also need to update it, especialy multiplayer games

Hm, OK. That's not good news then. Well, I'll see what happens. Thanks for your help!

Why I don't want to update the game is quite simple, I'm not interested in multiplayer, but I do have a few heavily modded games like Euro Truck Sim or CIV where core updates tend to break many of the mods. This never used to be a problem before, because we could just opt out of the auto updates.

Even before when you disabled auto updates it would still update when you tried to launch it.

Nothing has changed in the way updates work they have simply reworded the options to reflect how it actually works to prevent confusion - as many people thought disabling auto updates prevented updates entirely which it never did.

The options are still there and are the same as they were, they've just been renamed.

The old "Dont automatically update game" should really have been called "Dont update the game until i launch it". The new label ACTUALLY tells you what it is doing.

This is actually incorerect as it does NOT always update some games. Euro Truck 2 does not update until I manually do so. It will be qued each time I log in but NEVER actually updates. This is unfortunate that they have done this and kinda sad that some think it was actually never done this way before. To not update is HUGE if you use any kind of mods as they can easily be broken. By not updating it allows the mod creator time to update to the new patch.

Is there any solution or workaround for this issue?

But is there a way to set all games to "only update when I launch it" or do you have to individually click on the properties of every game in your library?
