Put Steam game on flash drive for friend
I bought my friend some Steam games when they were ultra cheap so we could play online. The problem is that it takes a few hours for him to download 1 GB. I was thinking of copying the files for some games we both have and pasting the files onto his PC and then have him validate the game files when they're on there. Would this work? From what I understand, He would have to start the download so it would make the folders and then he would stop the download, paste the contents into the folder, and then start the download again.

If you have the folder on your computer, you can just copy the whole folder from the \Steam\SteamApps\common location and put in in his \Steam\SteamApps\common location and then if he tries to run the Exe file in there Steam should discover the game files and maybe download anything needed.

Inside steam there is a backup and restore option which does exactly what you are asking for. You backup the games you want, and your friend can then restore them.

Hells yeah. Thanks guys. But this brings up an issue. I want to pack as many games on the drives as possible which means I might have to split up a game between 2 flash drives.

Again, this problem is solved within the backup and restore option. You can split the files into what ever size you wish (CD, DVD or custom size).

I'd recommend not to make one file bigger than 8GB.

Oh, make sure that the files first go onto your regular hard drive if you have to split them. Then copy them over to the different hard drive.
If you dont have enough space on your regular hard drive, you just need to make several different backups of the individuals games, rather than all in one.

Ok. Awesome. Thanks for the help. I have 2 16gb flash drives and a 32 gb flash drive. I'm putting bioshock infinite, tomb raider, and dead island on them, sending them to him, and then when he sends them back I put more games on there. He lives in another state so that's how we will do it

Thats great. When you are inside the backup option, you can select the games you want to backup and it tells you exacty what size the backup will be.

It did but both accounts need to have a license for the game. Then when you copy and paste it, it will download a few additional files.
