Do i need Half Life 2 to play Garry's Mod without Errors?

I'm planning to buy Garry's Mod and someone told me that i need Half Life 2. Is this right or can i just buy Garry's Mod with Counterstrike Source+ Global Offensive to play without Errors?

You will get errors depending on if you have the required game or not and what multiplayer mode or content you use on gmod
