How big are game download files
My ISP charges by the data. They all appear to be doing that now. I can have 10 gig at night, 10 gig during the day during any given month, and if I go over they slow me down until I pay $10 per gig to carry me through the month. Needless to say I have to manage my data transfers. The only place to buy new games for the PC these days is through STEAM, retail and box sales are dead. I cannot find anywhere that tells me how big a game download is BEFORE I pay for it. I need to know the whole story about what a game will cost before paying for it, including what it will cost me to download it.

Please, someone, tell me how I can determine how big a game download is BEFORE buying it. Thanks!

It depends on the game! Whgen you go to a game and click 'install' it will seay the size of the download file before you click next twice and then finish.

The game's store page will tell you how much space you need but that will usually include the size of temporary files used while actually running it. So, if you take that figure and reduce it by about 10% it'll give you a rough idea of how big the actual download is likely to be... and I'm afraid that's as close to a definitive answer as you're probably going to get. Having the download size posted on the store page has been suggested a few times but so far it hasn't happened.

All games have there own sizes but USUALLY on new games like first person shooters and RPG's about 2-10 gigs.

Thanks for your responses. Things have changed with me and I now pay a per gigabyte fee plus a monthly fee for my connection. I am remote, so I can only use satellite. I buy one game a month - the last one was 11 gig, counting the 2 gig update that appeared within days. I update my games from the download list once a month - this month alone, another 4 gig (2 gig of which was on the game I just downloaded). I never thought I'd say it but in practical reality I can't really afford Steam. Note that I do not blame Valve, I don't blame anyone really. But even being magnanimous about it doesn't make it palatable. Again, thanks for your responses. Knowing information is not there is sometimes as important as knowing it is there.
