Steam downloads stop every few seconds
For some reason, my downloads are unable to run for more than a few seconds. I have restarted my computer and Steam dozens of times since the issue began. I have absolutely no clue why it does this. It is beyond infuriating to sit for hours, just clicking "resume" over and over. Often, it will cancel the download so fast that I can barely even see it resume. I have more than enough disk space (More than 500 gigabytes). This has been going on for weeks, if not months, now.

EDIT: If I start the download by hitting Play, it tells me that "An error has occurred while updating <game>". The link sends me to https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8676-EFLX-7453&l=english , and I have done everything there except flush my steam applications. I'm not sure what that does, would it affect saves or anything of the sort?

It's not my antivirus, I disabled it and the problem persists. I flushed my steam applications and ran it from the folder, and the problem persists. I have absolutely no clue what is going on.

EDIT: Ok, this is worrying. I just did a full reinstall of steam, uninstalled everything after copying my steamapps folder over. The issue still is there.

My download location is the closest one to me, I'll try changing it and see what it does.
EDIT: No change, sadly.

Steam is up, my download speed is completely fine. It's been doing this on two different routers, and I did not change ANYTHING when it started.

EDIT: Looking at a page for help, what does flushing steams application files do, exactly? Any risk for save data?

No, other downloads work fine. It's only steam that has this issue.

Sadly, I have the same issue. I can't update nor download games without having the problems Azrael described. I think it has something to do with the most recent Steam Client update, but when testing the Steam Beta update same thing happens. I tried EVERYTHING that Steam said to do. Nothing. It does not work. May need to submit a Steam support ticket if the problem persists.

Is it every few seconds or can it go for a few minutes before crashing? I recently changed back to my old house and the download can go for about a minute or two before dying. At the other house, every download I tried would corrupt, so it was the internet there. The download still stops, but after a longer time.

Alright, this is just plain weird, but I've found the answer. It's account-specific, as in I logged into my brother's account and it could download games just fine. Hopefully this problem is fixed in the next update. That is, to my knowledge, the only way to fix it.

On my account, it depends on the download. Some games end instantly, whereas others can go for 2 minutes at a time.

Okay, I may also have found something else out. It may also be a drive issue, as I've changed hard drives and most (but not all) are installing fine.

Nope, haven't fixed it. Reinstalled steam multiple times, didn't help. Frankly, I think it's not even an issue with steam, but rather with my computer. It could be a virus, but I've also heard faulty RAM tossed around or something. It tends to crash when my download speed reaches 1mb/s. If its lower, it lasts for a short while longer before dying on me:

I know this because of the two houses I live at. One, I get from 500kb/s to 1.5mb/s. Lately though, it's been hovering at 250kb/s, and lasts for a while before crashing. At my other house, I get around 6mb/s, and it crashes anywhere from "instantly" to about half a second. Throttling the download speed to a bit below 1mb/s also makes it last longer, but in this case it also makes it slower.

A kind-of-solution I've found is using an autoclicker. If you leave your computer on when its not in use, either during the day when you're away or overnight, place your mouse over the download button and turn it on. If you have more than one, and it just rapidly starts each one in order and doesn't let any download, there's a tiny little space at the top of the button, as I've screencapped here: < http://prntscr.com/7lgqea > Just above the red line. It's small, just a pixel or two, but it works. Place it there and it will only activate that one download. Or at least, that works for my steam.

Hope the last thing I said helped.
