Steam seems to remember my credit card security code
And I can now make direct purchase.
How is that even possible? I thought it wasn't legal to store such information in the first place.

No need to say I'm quite unpleased by this new feature.

I think if the order is under a certain dollar amount, steam's cart doesn't bother with it. But I'm not certain... I've noticed it too.

From what i've heard, it is only on devices you have authorized the payment on and you can opt out of having your billing info stored.

Well, ok, guess I have to erase my card information then, which is really unpracticle by the way.
But still... I'm pretty sure it's plain prohibited for a merchant site to store this.

Depends on your country I know it is legal in the U.S. but your country could differ.

I don't know if you mean Paypal, but in case you did, the merchants kind of hide this by saying something like "Check this box here if you want to check out faster next time". That's the line that lets them do some easy authorization for charges when you buy from them. No password to Paypal needed, no 3-digit-code from your card needed or bank account, just an "easy" check-out.

Erasing your payment info has no relevance on trading restrictions.

The card data got stored because on a checkout the 'Store my information for future purchases' checkbox was left checked. Unchecking it will not store the data on future purchases.
The process of storing payment info is used on many online stores (Amazon, for example)

you can remove any stored payment methods on your Account Details.

Sure, I want to store my payment information. What I don't want, on the other hand, is being able to purchase things with no verification whatsoever. Amazon asks me for a code, no matter what. It's basic security stuff.

No big deal though, I untied my card.

Well... you'll end up entering a new billing method in, eventually, and then you'll have that 7 day cool down, regardless. Most likely during one of the two holiday sales....

And storing a card's billing info should not be storing the CVV key. Last time when I made orders over 60 bucks Steam makes me enter that CVV key... when I buy 5 dollar stuff, it didn't.
