Is there a way to gift someone something but have it be delivered on a specific date?

I want to buy a friend a Steam game but have it come on his birthday. Is this possible and how?

Buy him the game on his birthday as a gift directly to him .

Or:

Buy the game and put it in your inventory before and then send it to him on his birthday.

EDIT: Maybe there is a delivery date, first I've heard of it :)

When you gift an item from your inventory, you have the option of scheduling the delivery for a specific date and time.

I'm not sure if you have the same option when buying something as a gift through the store and I can't check right now.

there is an option when you purchase as a gift to schedule the delivery just, so you can use that option.
