Run a rootkit virus scan. And scan that exe at virustotal.com... something that should be standard procedure for any exe you don't know.

First, it's customary when asking for computer help to state AT THE VERY LEAST your operating system and its version--ideally all its specs. I'm going to assume Windows 7 or later...

The COM Surrogate is another name for a COM object process, i.e., "dllhost.exe" that is run outside of the process that requested it. For example, File Explorer uses the COM Surrogate when extracting image thumbnails. If you go to a folder with thumbnails enabled, Explorer will fire off a COM Surrogate and use it to compute the thumbnails for the documents in the folder. It does this because Explorer has learned not to trust thumbnail extractors; they have a poor track record for stability.

Try disabling the thumbnail cache in Windows: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/10794-thumbnail-cache-enable-disable.html

Let me know if that helps, if it doesn't, I'll tell you what else you can try.
