how to change download directory (I do not want to change install directory)?

I would like to change the directory Steam games download to *before* they install. Is this possible and if so how do I do this?

Not possible as far as I know.

go to steam/settings/download/steam library folder you can add directory there where you want games to install so when you install a game you can choose directory.

I have rhe same question, however I want to place the new games on a second partition that i have on my computer, while leaving the games I have installed at the moment to stay on the first partition. So in short, keep my old games where they are, and place all the games i have in my download que (they havent started downloading they are just in my library) in a second partition so that i can seperate my games from my personal files. please help, thanks in advance!

If they haven't started downloading, why not just undo the download, setup the second location under [Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders] and start the said installation again, but this time on the other partition?

You can select more than one game at once to install by holding down SHIFT and pressing the first and the last entry on the list; or hold CTRL while clicking in order to include/exclude titles.

If they'd have already downloaded a fair bit and you'd have some download cap, then I'd exit Steam, move the said game's appmanifest -file from under its destination steamapps\ -folder onto the next partition's steamapps\ -folder, and move whatever related to the download is under steamapps\downloading\ to the second partition's steamapps\downloading -folder and then restart Steam.
