if you are build a new pc, go with i3 6100, and ddr4
i3 4170 and fx8 have about the same overall performance
some games can use more cores/threads and fx will do slightly better
others like core performance and the i3 will do better
fx8 also needs a 970-990 board to get it best performance

its not worth changing the mobo to move to fx which is at skyalke prices and below skylake performance
