The FX-8350 is the better of the two processors, however you cannot use an Intel motherboard with an AMD CPU. So that's something to consider before upgrading.

No. FX-8350 is faster in some games and slower in others. There should be more games where it faster, but in general these CPUs both have the same performance level. Any Haswell i5 will be significantly better than FX-8350.

fx is old

if you are build a new pc, go with i3 6100, and ddr4

i3 4170 and fx8 have about the same overall performance
some games can use more cores/threads and fx will do slightly better
others like core performance and the i3 will do better

fx8 also needs a 970-990 board to get it best performance

If this is an existing i3 4170 tower just pull out the cpu and replace with an i5/i7 4xxx.

I have 16 gb of ram but my motherboard is broken so it'll only allow me to use 8gb so im getting a new motherboard, And i didnt know if i was gonna keep my i3 4170 or go with the fx-8350 but i think i am gonna go ith the i54460 thanks

keep the i3 setup and get an i5 or i7 4xxx

its not worth changing the mobo to move to fx which is at skyalke prices and below skylake performance

Personnaly i prefer the i3, but i really dont like amd processors at all tbh.

Do you really need more than 8 gb of ram? Pick up a cheap 4th gen i5 and get another year or two out of your motherboard. Unless you really need more than 8 gigs of ram.
