CS:GO has an article about that too.

Shared versions of the game will not be eligible for item drops nor have access to the in-game inventory. Competitive matchmaking and the spectator client will also only be available in the full game.

I'd assume Left 4 Dead 2 would work fine, since it doesn't have such an article.

Meaning it doesn't show up in the library?

Don't just leave it at "doesn't work", because no one knows how it doesn't.

It does show up for me at least:

A shared L4D2 can be played online.

There is no competitive side of that game so no-one really cares.

Left 4 Dead 2 is using VAC so I would be cared if someone is playing cheats while connected to a VAC Server using my copy of the Game.
What if a borrower is caught cheating or committing fraud while playing my shared games?

Your Family Sharing privileges may be revoked and your account may also be VAC banned if a borrower cheats or commits fraud. In addition, VAC protected games will not be shareable. We recommend you only authorize familiar Steam Accounts and familiar computers you know to be secure. And as always, never give your password to anyone.
If you receive a VAC ban, you will be unable to share any VAC protected games.
