Big Picture Mode - How to make achievement notifications go away

Whenever I get an achievement while using my valve controller, I get a 'Big Picture' notification that won't go away unless I reset the game. It seems to want to prompt me to press the Steam button on the controller, which lets me reconfigure the controller settings and then go back to a game with an achievement notice covering the lower right-hand corner.

Starting off new games that have multiple achievements in the first fifteen minutes makes this very annoying. In Mad Max, this covers my ammo/gas/vehicle damage info. Any ideas?
