Games that really need 16Gb RAM
1) Just Cause 3
What else? I need the list so I won't accidentally buy these games.
Too bad I've already bought JC3, because on its store page it erroneously listed 8Gb as minimum.

Batman Arkham Knight 9+ GB
ARK is notorious for high RAM usage due to bad optimization
GTA V 8+ GB

That are all that I remember and please note if you have less than 16 GB RAM there's not
a world of difference especially if you don't have a lot of background programs running.

I know that Dead Rising 3 benefits from lots of RAM, barely ran on my 8gb machine.

It's not always "Games that can use 16GB RAM" but there is that you want 6-8GB RAM just for the game alone; so in overall RAM, yes 16GB RAM helps out alot, so your OS and any other Apps have some RAM too.

I find this hard to believe that you need more than 8gigs of RAM to run those games. Unless you can't use task manager and have tons of adware and background processing running.

To run, no. To run better, yes... this is people still dont understand

A good CPU and GPU is far more important as the RAM. If Windows doesnt has many programs running in BG and has enough virtual memory to cache on, even 8GB is enough for any current game.

Have you played JC3 or arkham knight? I have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ i7 6700k and a GTX 980 two puny 4 GB ram and my PC can't freaking run these two games smoothly.

I did play Just Cause 3 on 8 GB of RAM until I upgraded to 16 GB and it worked fine for me.

I was still on Windows 7 at the time too.

Those games aren't even properly optimized for how dated they look. Running on a decade old game engine.

All honesty, if your system can run it, have 16gb of RAM. Most games won't need this, but it's handy to have if you want some future proofing. Plus, there are the occasional 16gb Recommended Specs. And, editing should always have a minimum of 16gb of RAM.

Reviving... since I was asking myself the same question (even in 2017) I've found that some guys have tested it: https://www.techspot.com/article/1043-8gb-vs-16gb-ram/page3.html

This is an old material. It's 2 years ago. I think more games use more than 8Gb now. Since writing the starting post I have bought additional 8Gb of RAM so now I have 16gb.

Space Engineers, without background apps my RAM usage is around 15.5GB used
Witski Jul 31, 2019 @ 2:44am
these games with 8 gb of ram will work just fine, if you have more the game takes more because you have them (i think) i play space engineers and jc3 and never eats more than 4-6gb or ram,i have downloaded 8gb.
And the gpu + cpu helps the ram by taking some memory, also the ssd is helping, if you have enought ram the system works on ram and keeps free the gpu and cpu and ssd free i think.
Correct me if im wrong please. this thing should work with gpu taking care of cpu workloads too
