Trying to attach non-steam game Halo 5: Forge to Steam
It doesn't show up in the application list in Games>Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library.

I thin it might be one of the UWP apps only obtainable via the Win 10's app store which does not use exe's

They do still use .exe -files, but the folder can only be accessed while the game is turned on, which also means you cannot launch the game through the .exe initially.

When I played Forza, I just ended up linking a random .exe, changing its path to a batch file that I ran instead. Meant it would show me in the game; but didn't mean in-game overlay.

Add two non-steam games (anything) and change the target fields the two I have below are for the Halo hub app and the second is for Halo 5: forge itself. Unfortunately the overlay does not appear for either but it does get Steam to launch them, maybe if you make an exe to launch the below and add that to Steam it'll work. I'm not sure.

Halo HUB target:

shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.Tomp_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App

Halo 5: Forge target:

shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.Halo5Forge_8wekyb3d8bbwe!Ausar

Your method works well besides the game cannot seem to run standalone without launching the halo app first secondly, it's popping up with "Failed to launch Halo 5 forge" when i run the shortcut you suggested there is another method that includes targeting explorer.exe and adding " shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.Halo5Forge_8wekyb3d8bbwe!Ausar " to the launch commands but that doesn't seem to add the steam overlay as it is just a shortcut and doesn't show up to everyone that I am in-game, just seems like Microsoft is trying to kill PC gaming as steam is the hub for 90% of games

I don't think it has anything to do with steam, Pale. Halo 6 is going to release on PC, and microsoft has stated that they're no longer releasing console exclusives. It's probably a security measure of some kind or a new, more efficient file format.
