Preparing for OS re-install
Hey all, looking for tips on how to preserve game files after a re-install of windows. Ever since i upgraded, i've been having issues with stuff not working right on windows 10. So i am fed up enough to completely wipe my main drive & start from scratch. I have all my games installed to my other hard drive approx 200 gB of games, but the steam application itself runs on the main drive. So my question is, if i uninstall steam via the drive wipe & OS install, but leave my steamapps folder untouched on the separate drive, will it be as easy as repointing steam to that drive after i re-install to get my games running again? Is this a risky option? Would it be better to uninstall all my games then re-install 1 by 1 after i reset my OS?

Thanks in advance

your games are safe as long as they are in different drive when you install steam again or windows you can easly repoint steam to games via steam/settings/download/ steam library folder.
i copy all my steam folder to different driver when i have to reinstall windows.then simply paste it back and launch.

what about the additional files that are in my install folder? for example the steam dll is in there, and so are a bunch of appmanifest files.
you need all steam apps folder backed up in diff drive. appmanifest files are important which help steam detect each game.
just simply backup steam app folder or all steam folder from program files.

yes i already have all the steam apps (games + appmanifest + steam.dll) on my other hard drive. Wiping my main drive. the steam program itself is on the main drive.

Easiest is to save the whole steam folder.
Then just run steam exe in it later.

Okay so i did the re-install. My games launch fine and everything, but all my saves disappeared after i re-installed steam? Shouldn't the saves still be on my second drive somewhere? Why can't it find any of my saves?

Most of ur saves are in steam userdata folder thats why.i told u to backup it. And other games saves are in my document or in c drive depend on each game some games have cloud saves.
