Recent Games not updating
Not sure what's going on here, but starting about 2 days ago my 'most recently played game' list isn't updating on my steam client. So when I right click the tray icon to play my most recent game, it isn't there, it's just the same unchanging list of games. Steam and PC have been restarted repeatedly.

Same problem, same "about 2 days ago", but worse. In my case, not only is it not updating, it reverted to a several-weeks-old version. No game I've played since about September is on the recent games list. Same for the right-click menu on the system tray Steam icon.

I have too many games to put up with poor categorization. Obviously you can change your main library window to sort by last played, but that's clumsy. I shouldn't even have to open the Steam window to launch these games. Love to hear if you come across a solution.

Interestingly, after just playing Rimworld, it's now showing as a most recent game. Not sure if that'll stay after restart or not. The last 2 days it hasn't stayed at all. I did buy a new game last night. I wonder if that caused it to reset or something.

Happened to me too. I'm also on the beta, maybe that may mean something.

I recommend also commenting in one of the two bug reports on the forum that list this issue, ideally the more popular one made by user Revy. When you mentioned being on the beta, I checked to see if I was on there, and I am, and also right next to the beta option is a bug report button that takes you to that part of the forum. Don't start a new bug report, that's just obnoxious. Instead, pile on the existing report so Steam knows it's a common problem.

I'm having this exact same issue. It's showing games I haven't played in weeks or months and the games that I do play only stay on the list until my next restart.

same issue here.

and now that I've restarted steam it's reset the list and removed my latest played game. It's like the file that saves that information has been corrupted or something and it's stuck on an older version.

Same for me. For me it was related to being on beta. After switching from beta to normal, list showed correctly. After again signing on beta, list was out of order, showing games i played months ago.

It's kind of annoying because I use the recent games to launch the games that I am currently playing. I have a lot of games and now I have to scroll through the giant list to find them, lol.

Add them to fav as a temporary solution.

hey all! I actually found out this problem and fixed it.
If you go into steam settings -> account and "Opt out of all betas" it should resume as normal.

I went to the upper left corner Steam>Check for Steam Client Updates...

let it do it, and my recent games came back.
