Half Life 2 GOTY box set CD key invalid

Just bought a Half Life 2 GOTY box set but It keeps saying CD key invalid. It should be working, this is literally a valve game. Unless theres a conflict with my orange box cd key but even then, I just want CS:S

I'm going to assume it's secondhand, which means the CD key already is tied to a Steam account and cannot be transfered.

Get a refund.

Its second hand but I think the issue is that I already got HL2 from another key. So theres a conflict between the two

If the key were already used then it would show a duplicate key error, not invalid.
Invalid means that Steam does not know that key at all.

What publisher is listed on the box?

1. Why would you buy that?

2. There no brand new copies they been out of print for over a decade, so if you bought it used off someone, you should've realized the key very likely to be used already, that why don't buy used copies of games with keys.

3. If already own half life 2 you don't get another copy.

OP thought that buying "Half Life 2 GOTY" can play Counter Strike: Source.

since Half Life 2 GOTY also contains Counter Strike: Source too.

OP should have gone to Steam Store directly and Search for Counter Strike: Source

instead of going somewhere else and buy 2nd hand games that doesn't work anymore on Steam Platform.

I'm asking about the publisher, not developer.
Valve never did the retail publishing for any of their games.
