Install it and log into the "Client."
Go to your Library page and click the download button for the game.
I'm not sure how it is you purchased the game, or what your familiarity is with Steam as a platform, so I'll just try and cover as many bases as I can.
Steam is a platform for purchasing and playing PC games. You will need a PC to play the game you bought. That PC must be running either Windows, Linux, or MacOS. Typically you'll use Windows, but most games will run under Linux, and a few will run under MacOS.
You can log-in, browse Steam, and purchase games via the website using an ordinary web browser, but you'll need to download the actual client to be able to install and play your games. If you go to the main Steam page and click the button in the upper right labeled "Install Steam", it will download the installer. Run that to install Steam on your PC.
Once installed, log in using the username and password you created. (You will have had to have created an account to buy a game.) You are now running the actual client. Click "Library" at the top of the client to access the games you own.
"Username? Steam account? What are you talking about? I bought this game in a store???" You might be saying. Well, this is possible. Your receipt probably contains a unique game key which allows you to claim your copy of the game. In this case, download and install the client like I mentioned previously. Create a new account if you haven't done so already. (You must have or you wouldn't be posting here.) Then at the very top of the Steam client, click "Games", then "Activate a product on Steam". Here you can input the code from your receipt and claim your game.
I don't want to insult your intelligence, so feel free to ignore any of these tips that don't apply to you. Now I want to explain what Steam is not.
Let me know if that helped, and if so which part solved your problem? I'll also be happy to answer any questions you may have about Steam as a platform, or PC gaming in general.
Welcome.
After purchase downloaded steam. Access to library requies me to log in . Have the username but don't know the password.
So trying to reset password but it keeps saying password is invalid but doesn't tell me why. Have had multiple goes at this. Utterly stumped. Can't remember original sequence when purchasing game and it autofilled the information so can't get in that way.
Hope you can help further and sorry if my explan is confusing. I'm Joy by the way.
See below. Once you install Steam you can launch the client from your desktop and login using the same username and password.

You should allways keep passwords and other informations, for example in a password manager.
Just wish we didn't have to get tangled up in technology. loved the days when you bought a game and the receipt had a download button which you pressed and you entered the game without any faffing . You've been my saviours today. It is so nice to have people willing to help . you are a lovely bunch.
