SOLVED:
I have resolved the issue by adding my steamapps folders in each of my drives to the exclusions list under Virus & Threat Protection Settings. This is a common issue specifically when trying to install God of War.

This only mitigates the installation speed issue briefly, however. The download speed will creep back down below 10 Mbps at some point. Patience is the only answer I can see unfortunately.


ORIGINAL ISSUE DESCRIPTION:
Hello! I'm wondering if Steam may be down right now or if anyone has information about what's going down on their end.

I'm aware of the difference between MB and Mb and have changed my Steam download settings to match what internet speed tests report back.

Prior to today it would take 10-15 minutes to download a 64 GB game. However, I'm trying to install God of War and I'm getting an estimate of over 24 hours (2.5-2.9Mbps). It's literally trickling in despite an flood of internet being thrown at it.

I have no firewall restrictions, a scan of my PC shows no threats, Internet is performing to expectations outside of Steam, and there are no caps set in my Steam download settings.
No other programs running on my machine so what could be the bottleneck?

steam can obliterate 1gbps connections

Steam downloads are limited by

1) your CPU
2) your Disk IO
3) your anti-virus killing disk IO performance
4) your ISP

Thank you for your replies. I just attempted to download some other scheduled items instead of God of War.

A 1.2GB package for Resident Evil Village downloaded at 356.6 Mbps. Total elapsed time was about 20-30 seconds and the download speed increased the entire time.

A 489.1 MB package for Cult of the Lamb downloaded in about 5-10 seconds with similar speeds.

The issue is likely related to the God of War program specifically.

Hey man im having the same issue aswell normally i download games at 6 megabit speed but for some reason God Of War only uses 1,5 megabit speed i've tried other games like Dying Light 2 or Resident Evil Village and they all use my Internet at full speed but only God Of War downloads at 1,5 megabit.
