Cannot accept gift
I bought a Steam key for GTA V DLC by accident from a seller on G2A (I thought I was buying the game but I was wrong). Rather than sending me the key directly, the company I purchased the key from [World_of_Games] had me click a link from getyourgame.net, sign into Steam, accept a friend request from an account named fryehalle16607, and then accept the DLC as a gift.

Initially, I clicked accept but received an error stating "invalid privilege". I contact the seller and they informed me it was because I bought DLC, not the game. Since I didn't have the game, I cannot accept the DLC. Since I wanted the game, not the DLC, I asked for a refund so I could then purchase the game instead. Unfortunately, the seller refused to refund me, claiming I have received the key even though I don't have the key - I literally CAN NOT accept the key. They told me to sell the key on G2A to get my money back but I literally DO NOT have the damn key.

A friend has since gifted me the GTA V premium game, which included the DLC I purchased from G2A meaning I still can not accept the DLC gift from the G2A seller/fryehalle16607 account because it's already in my library.

Rather than decline the gift and let the seller get the refund as well as keep my money, is there any way I can get the refund instead to recoup my losses? Otherwise, is there any way I can accept the key and give it to a friend on Steam instead? The gift is literally hovering in thin air at this point.

I realise I'm probably going to have to accept the fact I messed up and I'm going to have to eat my losses, but I'd really like to figure out a way where I didn't waste my money completely.

Thanks for your time, looking forward to any advice you can offer me.

The fact that the company (if you dare call them that) is censored should give you an indication of their reputation.

Important things need to read!
First part you likely login to a phishing site, the scammer probably sitting on your account right now, you see five steps need to do ASAP down below to kick them off before they do something else with your account, do not wait. If you suddenly lost access before able do five steps, read below that to do recovery of account.

2nd there is no GTAV DLC Steam key never existed, only key exist is for Rockstar not Steam, and seller lying to you, contact G2A about seller that lying, and refusing to give refund, if G2A refuse to issue refund, you're free to do a charge back on them do not let scammers have their way period.

Understand Steam can't help as this is an issue between you, G2A, and the scammer. Make sure you report the steam account you friend with for the game.

If you still have access to the account do these steps, don't skip any.
1. Scan for malware. https://www.malwarebytes.com/

2. Change password, if another service you use has same old password, ensure change that too.

3. Deauthorize all other devices. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

4. Generate new backup codes. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

5. Revoke the API key. https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey <--- Should be nothing there.

IF you do not have access to your account you need to do this on a broswer while not login.
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/0a94-f308-34a5-1988

Recover the account, put in fake email, like ais123@asdj .com and you fail the search, you see a pop up at bottom asking if want to search by login name, click that. Now you be at page to search for account by your login name, once found, click no to all questions, when get to password page, click I forgot password, and you be at the form to fill out for support to recover your account, support will reply in due time, and ask for proof of ownershop. When get your account back, do step 3, 4, and 5 above.

Here tips, and examples to help you give an ideal of types of scams, and phishing attacks that happens online daily that people can fall for, doesn't matter if you think it won't happen to you, it can happen if not paying attention, as some are very good tricks.

- Sharing account infomation with others. <--- Very common with impersonators, pretending to be Steam admin / support.
- Logging in on phishing sites. <--- Very common with skin gambling sites.
- Downloading / Installing Virus / Keylogger on your system.
- Using public devices that has keyloggers, such as cyber cafe, school computers, and etc...
- Storing your login credentials on a unsecured service that others has access to view.
- Using same login credentials for all your things, or using same login credentials on another service that had a data leak. Yes it does matter because even if it not related to Steam, if using same login credentials, hijackers will try to use those credentials to see what services you use with those credentials. https://haveibeenpwned.com/

The type of story scammers say to you.

- "Hey vote for my team", and they link you a phishing site link, and try get you to login.

- "Hey I can't add you, please add me", and they try to start their scam with you.

- If you're friend with someone that got their account hijacked, you get scam message like, "I report you", "you been banned", and whatever to try scare you, and they tell you to trade your items to them, or if you have a login to phishing site may have a API key on account that redirect trades, they ask you to give them money, or etc...

- If you already got your account compromise by them, they change your display name to banned, or whatever, your display picture as well, they may delete your friends, and try to spend your wallet funds if you have any, also trade all your items, but if they see if you have mobile authenticator attached, they play their scam to get you to confirm the trade to get your items off your account to their account quicker if they're able to trick you into confirming the trade.

I show you few examples.

You could frame it as fee for a lesson in "not trying to be a cheapskate and taking your business to shady scam sites anymore".

isthereanydeal.com only lists genuine sites which get their keys from the developers/publishers if you ever want to buy games not directly from Steam

you didnt buy a steam key from that site, what they are doing is abusing the gifting system. report the account. they are selling games/dlc as gifts, this is not supported nor permitted.

if you had bought a key, you would have received a key code. most rockstar games do not have steam keys, the keys they sell on 3rd party sites are for the rockstar launcher only.

you didnt get what you paid for, they owe you a refund. if they wont refund, do a chargeback and stop doing business with shady sites.

if you want to buy game keys, use a legit site.

https://isthereanydeal.com/
they list legit sites, if a site starts to do shady stuff, they will remove them from their list.

No problem, have to be aware of scammers online, they go any length to try to con as many people out of their money.

Don't be afraid to ask the community for help, or if have questions someone will always reply, and try to help you out.

You're not wrong there. I was dumb/naive - I thought it was okay because I bought a game from G2A before and it was fine, plus a couple friends have bought from them for years and never had an issue, either. Never thought to research into G2A because of this. :/ Obviously *after* I was scammed, I had a look and low-and-behold, scam city. -.- Lesson learned.

Unfortunately I didn't know I wasn't going to receive a key code until *after* I'd made the purchase.

Thank you for recommending the chargeback, my bank got my money back for me. Thank you for the link, too!

We all live, and learn from mistakes that how life goes. :mafia:

Yea gray market is a risk place to buy keys from, as never know if buy from a scammer that sold a stolen key, or try to con people with fake keys. Most people that sell games on gray market buy batch of keys from retailer sites that deals directly with game devs, and publishers, and get them cheaper than what they're trying to sell them.

Can use tool site to help find best deals for games like isthereanydeal.com they list only trusted sites that only deals with devs, and publishers.

Can use gg.deals it like isthereanydeal but they also list gray market sites, and they explain the risks might encounter when buying on gray market.

Sites I often use is humble bundle, green man gaming, fanatical, indie gala, and etc, as I often buy bunch of games for $1 ~ $20 as get indie to AAA games. I got death loop with 7 other games from humble bundle month choice for $13 USD / $18 CAD so can see what kind of deals I often get for most of my games.
