“Not enough disk space when downloading games or updating games to another hdd”
I have 1 ssd 3 hdd. My pc’s boot drive is the ssd and I download my games to my 8tb hdd. One day when I tried to install a small game it said that I didn’t have enough space when I had like 6.5 gb free of space. I looked into it for a long time and the problem is my ssd. For some reason steam tries to use my ssd when installing games or updates even though I don’t have steam installed on my ssd and don’t install games to my ssd. So if my ssd is full then I can’t download games and updates. It’s not just steam either. I can’t really download anything. I would prefer things not use my c drive when I’m not downloading stuff to it. If anyone know how to make steam stop doing this then please let me know.

When you install a game, at the very bottom of the dialogue box is the installation pathway. You can change it there as well.

Your Storage Manager should list all your Steam Libraries (Steam/Settings/Downloads/STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS)

If you don't have a library set up for your SSD then Steam cannot download games to it. More likely, the problem stems from not having enough free space; in other words, you are unable to download games not because Steam has filled up your SSD, but rather Steam cannot download because your SSD does not have enough space. You will have to uninstall programs or move data elsewhere in order to make space.

If you find that you do have a library for your SSD then use the Storage Manager to move games to a one of you HDDs. If downloads still fail after this then you will need to make more free space in the SSD as outlined in the previous paragraph.
