Will it boost gaming performance?

Yes, adding or updating your video card will improve performance. Also, If your CPU is the 'bottleneck,' upgrading it would improve performance in those CPU intensive games as well.

A good video card is likely to improve performance (if the rest of your system doesn't suck) and a bad video card will most assuredly worsen your gaming experience.
a video card loads images, videos, models, shaders, particle effects, animations, entire games and more. a computer is nothing more than a glorified calculator without one. a good graphics card is REQUIRED to play most modern games, along with an equally good processor to make calculations and crunch data. also this seems like an incredibly n00bish question asked by a small child.

Ina word. YEs but only to a point. Though always moreso than any other component. Games these days do most of their heavy lifting in the GFX card nowadays. The CPU gets used a bit as well but not as much. The speed of your GPU and the amount of ram on it are the biggest contributors to game performance. That said, beyond a certain point your CPU and System ram become the slow points.

it's a stupid question that any google search would have answered.
