GC Controller adapter works in Big Picture navigation, but not in "Add/Test controller."
Newbie here. My apologies if this is not the place to post this. Trying to play Hyper Light Drifter, but it doesn't pick up on any of my controller's input. I can see this problem extending to other games in the future, so I didn't make this post game specific. Here's the situation:

I have a "GC Controller Adapter for PC USB" with a standard gamecube controller plugged in. Windows 10 detects its input, and when in Big Picture, I can use the controller to navigate. When going to "Add/Test controllers," it is listed as "USB Gamepad." When I click on that to configure it, everything in the list says "---". When trying to change these, none of the input from my GC controller seems to register. Any suggestions?

If I am unclear or need to add more details, let me know. Thanks.

You can't actually configure a controller in Big Picture Mode unless it is a Steam Controller.
But if it works in there, it should generally work in Games.
To be honest, I would get a quality / official controller that supports X-Input
Like Xbox360, XboxOne or Logitech ones.

Generic stuff never works out very well.

Well, actually, the DS4 controller will have that feature in Steam sometime soon.

Steam should just allow remapping; read the controller based on input; let the user pick a controller layout based on some common presets for that; then allow remapping from there.

For example, mapping 360 vs One controller is the same, the difference in picture means nothing. They have the same buttons. Then maybe have a preset for something that does have extra; like XboxOne Elite
