Random audio playing from Steam Client Webhelper
I left the computer and came back to audio playing from what sounds like a game broadcast from Steam Client Webhelper. I have no other videos or games playing and I can't access the window outside of ending the process through task manager. Running all my scans just to be safe but should I be concerned?

Similar thing happened to me just now. Went away by restarting Steam and hasn't come back. Malware scan came back with nothing. What happened with you?

Same, antivirus and malware showed nothing. Only other time it I got it to happen again was hoving my mouse over a steam workshop item in the library tab on Natural Selection 2. I'm thinking either a glitch or hack to get more views on said video/stream.

I wasn't doing anything when it happened to me, I had the downloads page up because I'm preloading Dishonored 2 and was on my phone to someone and audio just started playing. Very strange stuff.

I have been experiencing this the past few nights and found an in-the-moment-fix that doesn't involve going to Task Manager or resetting Steam. I hope a real solution becomes available and Steam patches this.

In the Steam app, go to "Community" tab, and then the "Broadcasts" tab. This page shows thumbnails of current streams. Look in the bottom right of the page and you might see a minimized window playing the sounds of the stream you're hearing. If you don't, click a random stream to begin watching it. Once that page loads and the stream begins you'll hear this stream's audio in addition to the one you've already been hearing. Click the back button in the Steam navigation to return to the thumbnail views. The stream you just left is now minimized in the bottom right of the screen. Push the little x to close it. All audio sources from Steam's broadcasts will stop. At least they do when I do this.

I know this isn't a clean solution but it is a band-aid. Hope this helps.

Skaughtie!
Thank you so freaking much, I actually logged into the forum for the first time ever to thank you!
After so many freaking sites just saying it's Malware and scan your computer and ♥♥♥♥, you are the only person to give an actual answer that solved the freaking problem. Well Done. :steamhappy:

Looks like you have the Nvidia Capture open. Have you tried closing that

I’m assuming they have it open as that’s what there were using to capture/record the video.

Also the OP is from 2016, I expect they have sorted it since then.

There's a music player in Steam.
View > Music Player > Hit the stop button.

Then: Steam > Settings > Music
Remove all of the folders. Turn all the scan options off.

PROBLEM:
You are a member of a steam group and someone just did @all.

FIX:
You can remove those notification by going to the bottom of your friends list and leaving all groups/ disabling chat notifications on the specific group that is spamming.

have a nice day

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
