How to tell if a steam account report ticket screenshot is legit
So i've been getting these "reported for scamming" and "reported for illegal purchases" tickets appearing in discord direct messages and people telling me to contact a steam official to get help removing the pending account timeout/tempban or ban and one of the "tickets" i got seems legit and i don't know what the heck i should do

scams. steam does not handle their issues on discord

It's easy. None of them are legit. Ever.

Valve doesn't use discord. And they don't need random users to help them contact you. It's 100% weapons grade bolognium.

Since this is often sent to already compromised accounts, do the following to be safe:

1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
3. Change passwords from a trusted/clean computer.
4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
5. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)

Do not trade anything to anyone (not even your own alt accounts) until you've done the above.

It's simple.
1. Steam will never contact you. They will simply set up a support alert in your account and request you contact them, through the ticket system. Which is the only way Valve communicates with customers.
2. Valve does not use Discord.
3. Valve does not use Discord.
4. Scammers use Discord.
5. Valve does not use Discord.

Which is why you can't rely on appearance, but instead how businesses actually operate and their stated policies. So then it doesn't matter how good a fake looks, since the circumstances automatically disqualify it from being real.

You should ignore and report the user, also report the user through Discord's support system if you want to get rid of that account, though they'll probably come back with another

Doesn't matter. It's a scam. False reports cause nothing to happen so it doesn't matter even if they did actually report you.

It's still a scam. Steam does not contact through discord. In fact no legitimate business will randomly contact you via discord to resolve something. Valve can contact you via Steam or email if they need to.

If I cared to spend the time on it, I could send you a screenshot of your profile that would make you look exactly like a Valve employee. Would that make you a Valve employee?

Ask yourself why wouldn't Steam Support use their own platform to contact you directly if they needed information from you? Why would they need to use someone to send you a screenshot of support ticket on a completely different platform?

Stop believing anyone who tells you anything regarding your Steam account over Discord, instantly not stupid anymore. Also don't trust anyone who sends you a message on Steam about anything like that either, picture evidence or not. If there is a problem with your account then your actual client will have a red banner on it and a pop-up that you can't dismiss until you've done the instructions will appear, usually just read this prompt, check a box, and hit OK. Or in the case of a chargeback you need to contact support through help.steampowered.com and get it resolved within a timely manner.
