Bait, story, steps
Legitimate things allways let you research the things on your own without someone telling you: Rush and dont think, rush THAT way!
2. There no accidentally reported, what happens is support ignore the report if there nothing that breaking rules.
3. Support does not do discord chat, they don't do phone calls, VOIP, texting, or etc. There only one way to contact support, and that via Steam ticket system which is steam help section on the site, no where else.
If you click any links from these scammers, and you login, you need to change password ASAP, do not wait, and do not trade any item.
Do these 5 steps to secured your account.
1. Scan for malware. https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Change password, if another service you use same old password, ensure change that too.
3. Deauthorize all other devices. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
4. Generate new backup codes. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
5. Revoke the API key. https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey <--- Should be nothing there.
Do you get warned you going to get arrested in 2 hours? No. They'd do it and you'd have to prove your innocence.
Valve will also investigate. The biggest evidence you have that tells Valve you haven't done what that persons supposedly reported you for is the first thing they'd see. You've had 0 contact with that person besides the report. If you've had no contact with them how could you have possibly done what they claim??
they messaged me via my discord. they told me a story of how they "accidentally" reported my steam account and that imma get banned in 3 hours. they then make you add another discord account posing as a steam moderator.
that account then asked to see my purchase history. good thing steam doesnt show any personal info on these pages otherwise i was gonna be ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
they told me to log out of my steam account so that they could "run a program" to check if the "report" was actually valid. i did log out.
but then i got a message on my phone that steam sent me a verification code to change my steam credentials. and the scammers asked me to type that code in the discord chat.
luckily i found this discussion in time to realize they were scammers. bc if i did send the code to them they prolly wouldve changed my email, phone number and password and locked me out of my acc.
This just happened to me, but the only difference is that I have mobile steam guard enabled, so they asked me to "Temporarily" disable it for them to check if there's been any illegal activity.
Weird how steam would add a steam guard to protect people from scammers, when their own programs wouldn't be able to bypass it lol
No it didn't, you clearly have not read the thread. You got scammed by scammers NOT Steam employees
If the scammers are asking you to remove your Guard then they likely have your login name and password which is not good news. That's like someone pretending to be from the police asking you to remove your doors and windows from your house to see if there is anything weird going on. Surely you wouldn't believe that...
I almost got scammed by adding a "Brouteur" (as we call them in France) showing me images of "fraudulent transactions" and a fake "report" from them.
I got Infos on the guy if anyone wants them.
