There is no reason to rush the recovery. It will include waiting times anyway.
But something you should do ASAP is to lock your account by the provided link. Thus reducing the damage done to your account (lost items, game bans) and others (using to launder stuff, forwarding scam).
It was succesfully blocked but I didn't get any type of code...
No Developer asks ANYTHING either here or out, not even technical support.
Too naive young people, learn the lesson, the reports do not cause any bans.
Anyone can link the Steam profile on Discord, this means nothing.
Anyone who claims to be a Valve moderator, developer, or employee on other platforms is fake.
I have received scam attempts ever since I started playing tf2. A lot were obvious because they had modified URLs or strange looking pages.
However, I really trusted my friend and I was just getting out of bed.
So, I really didn't read what the emails I got from steam really were about.
So yeah, I guess it was deserved for not questioning if that guy was the same.
My received scam attempts date further back. Ever heard of the nigerian prince?
I'm surprised how well that scam still works, but my guess there is a new genration of people never experienced that scam, so they will fall for it.
I realised that this scam has been going on since 2020. I had just never heard of it. I have received direct phishing links but I always read them. The profile account I was sent, which of course I know I can't post. Had a valve employee badge. But wasn't in the valve group. But the badge was more than enough to convince me. And their discord was linked to that account, I assume you have to make a verification before just putting your acc like that on discord.
And again, my fatal flaw was thinking I could trust him since I knew him for a year now.
Edit: I've been checking his discord profile and yes it does look suspicious. I just wasn't as careful as I was before this time. Most scam attempts were always done by people offering me free money by glitches and all that which were obvious.
Just never had a stolen friend's acc. Not to mention the fact he perfectly nailed the way he typed.
Depends on how we interpret this scam. IMHO its the same nigerian prince scam from the late 90s I'm familiar with. Pretty sure that kind of scam existed way before that, just w/o internet.
The scam: fake authority with a bait to action.
Well, I were lucky. A "friend" of mine sent a "vote for our team" link, which I opened in another browser. I only detected the scam as I saw the "Steam login" page. I shoulda have catched the scam earlier, the message I received was suspecious as hell.
Btw, thats the reason why locking the account ASAP is so important: The scammer will try to scam all your friends too.
No I was refering to the "sorry i reported u" scam.
I can't really type properly right now.
And I didn't even know I could lock the account... despite being for 9 years on steam lol...
It gave me the opportunity to check my Steam Guard settings and change my password.
You can still recover your account through Steam support. As proof of ownership - current access to email and phone number that used to be associated with the account (before the scammer changed them) and some transaction records from previous game purchases (bank account statements), no matter how old.
This user is a Real Valve employee,👉 https://steamcommunity.com/id/john
The text written at the top of his profile is written on ALL the profiles of the other Valve employees, I advise you to read it, you can check it yourself on their official Valve group, that text written off the bulletin board no one can write it, it's an extra feature that only Valve employees have.
Volunteer moderators no longer exist, so anyone trying to show you the badge is fake. The volunteers who have been removed no longer have any power, in addition to the fact that they would not have any power over the users' accounts, neither before, nor now, not here, nor outside.
If you shared something with that user, your account is compromised.
And I repeat, Discord has NOTHING to do with Steam.
