PS4 Controller works wired, but not wirelessly
I tried everything. I used the default steam settings (PS4 controller support in steam, no DS4 windows) and DS4 windows (no PS4 controller support in steam). I dont get it. My controller works fine over bluetooth in other applications. It only doenst work when using steam.

With just Steam, see how it goes by first turning off PS Config Support then turning on the controller.

You see Xbox prompts in a game or Steam? If a game, which game?

i see them in multiversus. when i use ds4windows and disable steam controller input, i get the correct ps4 button promts, but i loose the ability to use bluetooth

For info: enabling PS Config Support means Steam will (in most cases) be emulating an Xbox controller (sometimes it'll emulate Mouse/keyboard or Steam Input). Unless the game asks Steam what the physical controller is, it will think you have an Xbox controller and show Xbox prompts.

You are using only Steam, you have PS Config Support disabled, are connecting via BT, the controller functions properly but you get Xbox prompts? If that is correct then that sounds like the issue is with the game itself, but we'll see...

You say you lose the ability to use Bluetooth, do you mean you are unable to use DS4Windows with your controller connected over BT?

yes, bluetooth no longer works when using ds4windows. I am confused as to why steam would emulate multiversus, when multiversus supports ps4 controllers.

OK, lets leave out DS4Windows for now.

Turning on Configuration Support tells Steam to provide emulation of some sort, the user is in control there. If the game supports their device, they can switch it off. It can also be set on by the developers though.

Right-click Multiversus in your Steam Library > Properties > Controller. If the developers turned it on, when you have Configuration Support disabled, it'll say "Enabled, set by developer" alongside the controller. Anyway to be sure (well surer) that Steam's controller support is not in use, select 'Disable Steam Input'. Then leave PS Config Support disabled and then retry over BT.

Controller works properly? Still getting Xbox prompts?

im getting ps4 promts, but no bluetooth. The controller properties dont show set by delevoper for ps4 controllers, only for switch and generic controllers

OK.

It could still be the game but I'm wondering about the controller.
Is it a Sony PS4 controller or third party?

1. Have Steam and DS4W closed, then connect over BT.
2. Open Game Controllers/joy.cpl (press Windows key + R, type joy.cpl, press Enter).
3. You should see "Wireless Controller", select it then Properties.
(If you don't see Wireless Controller, let me know what is written there)

Does the controller function at the test screen?

(Over BT, PS controllers will be in one of two modes, one that supports DirectInput or the other that is their PlayStation mode. joy.cpl will function with your controller while it is in DirectInput mode.)

If it doesn't function, start DS4W, let it attempt to connect to your controller, then exit DS4W.
Go back to joy.cpl.
Does it now function?

its a standard ps4 controller, and joy.cpl shows the wireless controller

Following steps 1-3, does the controller function in the test area of joy.cpl ?

the controller gets detected, but no input is detected

Start DS4W, let it try to connect with your controller, when it fails (I assume that's what you see) close DS4W, then check back at joy.cpl. Are the inputs now being detected?
Ven0m0 Jul 20, 2022 @ 8:53am
joy.cpl only detects the inputs when i enable the virtual controller in ds4w. When i disable it, it inputs arent picked up in joy.cpl even though this configuration works in other games

i got it. The solution was to disable steam controller support, disable steam input for the game, use a virtual ds4 controller through ds4w and hide the real controller using hidhide.
