Steam chat text window way too small. Needs fixing.
Steam chat text window is insanely small!

Who was this made for, pea brains who blurt a few monosyllable words a time?

You can't even resize it. Stupid thing!

Late to the party, but if you're willing to do a tiny bit of work, you can use the steam chat in-browser and use the inspect screen to increase the size of the text box by adding these two additions to the CSS:
.chatentry_chatTextarea_113iu { height: 100%; } .chatWindow .chatEntry { min-height: 300px; }
you can use a chrome extension like Stylebot in tandem to save/maintain the changes, so you don't have to edit it every time you load the page!

1) Open Chat
2) Click the gear icon
3) Click "Size and Scaling"
4) click "Large"

Thanks for the tip, but that doesn't solve the issue I'm referring to.

Perhaps I should have tried to explain clearer. I mean the text entry field, where you type to talk to a friend. It's not a problem of font size but rather real estate for the text entry field.

This area where you enter text is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too small. Before the UI overall you used to be able to resize the text window and see an actual sentence, even a paragraph, before you send it to a friend. Now you see bugger all!
Arrow key's are a thing. <- ->
It won't be changing any day soon. Use them.

Nah I'll just type my messages in Notepad and copy paste into Steam messanger to make up for this obvious design issue.

I just started searching for this solution today when trying to type anything longer than a sentence. I design stuff for a living, so you are not wrong that it's terrible. Expandable text boxes should be the default by now. :(
I prefer pictures to deal with visual issues, thank you. :csdsmile:

Wow, this is very clever. Thanks!

It's a shame there's competence lacking to fix this on the actual Steam app. But what you've provided is a good workaround.
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
