family sharing rules.
I tried remoteplay with the steam deck. and had to except family sharing with my brothers account to be able to play. He usually plays on his own PC and noticed a long list of new games.

Is he allowed to play "my games" when i am playing my games at the same time.
Becaus most games only allow 1 game running at a time. But i am not sure if thats the case with family share.

Also is it possible - allowed to play those games were a 3rd party account is needed. Like Microsoft games, Ubisoft, Rockstar...for example Forza Horizon 5

Thats hard (or not convenient) to maintain. I often don't know when he is playing and he only see one library with his games and mine together mixed together. Its a long list with some games on both accounts.

Anyway i know you get a message "another game is running" when you are on the same account. But not sure you get this message when you basically use 2 accounts.

How family share works: You're A and your bother B

B play B library

No issues, no conflict.

There an issue, A will get kicked the moment B starts playing any games as well works same vice versa.

B play B library with client in OFFLINE mode.

No issues, no conflict. B would not be able to connect to Steam network for mulitplayer, but can still play games that single player, or games that don't rely on Steam API in order to play. Also works same vice versa.

So basically, i don't have to be scared for infringement by accident. and eventually got banned. Steam kicks you automatically...from a game?

Unless you're renting out, or etc to people your account Steam can ban, as well lock down the account as its in their ToS.

Family sharing is exactly what it is, sharing with family, it was made in mind of using same PC without having to wait on others to login to their account for you to play the game, still works if using across more devices.

Yes Steam will kick you out of the game from Example 1 above. As soon B runs a game, and A playing B game, A will get a 5 minutes warning, before auto kicked.

Its not i am renting out, or planning to do so. technically my brothers account is also mine i am +18 he -18 so i always pay for his games. But we play on seperated pc's. If you can't play on the same time it makes family sharing difficult not really a solution specially if you also have a steam deck.

Don't need to be 18 to have steam account it's 13, and up.

Also not much can do really, if game requires internet connection to the server, and trying to share a game at same time as both playing just isn't gonna work, only option is get another copy of the game on the other account, so doesn't conflict anymore.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
