Steam downloads games at 2MB/s max

Hello. This is my first time on the Steam forum, so sorry if I make mistakes or anything.

Today I was downloading CS:GO, and noticed that the game was downloading at 2MB/s. I have had this issue before, but fixed it, and now with the same issue, the solution that I used before doesn't work anymore. I have done a speed test online, and my download speed was above 10MB/s, which was weird. I also have full control over my internet for any specific settings. I am also confident, that it's not a problem with any other app/game on my pc, as i tried closing all apps, and background services. The download will be done in a few hours, but might be a problem when downloading larger games.

Steam can obliterate your connection

You are limited by you

1) Disk IO
2) CPU speed
3) anti-virus killing your disk performance
4) your ISP

Go to the settings, go to the download section, find a suitable server, I have Lithuania, it gives out 20 mb per second. Google the Steam servers in the world (you will find a site where there will be something like a map), there you will see the maximum possible download speed and, like, the load on it, choose the optimal one and set it (keep in mind, you need to exit Steam later, he will offer you ). Disable all processes that can have the Internet and if it is Wi-Fi or wired to several computers, then try to restrict other neighbors from it, ask or kick it out of the network by force, the load will drop and the speed will return. In addition, make sure that your drive where you download the game is fast enough, not to mention the Internet itself. From the advice regarding the global solution - after my transition to Linux, the speed has doubled.

Speedtests use Megabit. Steam uses Megabyte.

10 Megabit = 1.25 Megabyte

Steam shows MB MegaBytes

8 bits per byte

so your 19mb /8 = 2.37MegaBytes

To save confusion between units change Steam so it shows in mb like speedtest does
Steam > Settings > Downloads > Display downloads rates in bits per second

speedtest says i got 1395.79 Mbps, but sometimes when I download sometimes it's only 50 MB/s instead of 170-175 MB/s, in those cases I think the server's just having high load or trouble keeping up, Steam should be able to use most of your download speed in most cases. I've never once had it stuck at anything below 30MB/s, at least.

But... In your case I think you had your download display switched to displaying download rates in bits per second instead of bytes per second since it doesn't seem like you should be getting over 10 MB/s with 19 Mbps.

I just checked my settings, and I have 'Display download rates in bits per second' off, so I don't know..
