Issue with returning Steam Deck
I finally, after almost a year on pre-order, received my 512GB Steam Deck. I bought a powered dock specifically so I could play games on it with a keyboard and mouse. Literally the only reason I reserved the deck in the first place was my understanding that I could *play* games on it with keyboard and mouse (I'm older and cannot make controllers work). I discovered that the mouse portion of control did not work with games on Steam Deck. How this has not been more widely covered, I dont know.

I went to the Steam help page for my Steam Deck purchase and clicked on the "I want to request a refund" button. A help ticket page opened and I basically put what I have above as the reason for wanting a refund. I pressed send, and got confirmation that it was sent. Then I noticed that the "issue" portion of the ticket said that I wanted help with payment or shipping. Figured I must have hit the wrong button (even though they are not close). Went back to the help page, and whenever I try to use the "I want a refund" button, my ticket keeps getting categorized as "I need help with payment or shipping".

How do I let Valve know I want a refund on my Steam Deck?

I would classify wanting a refund as payment help. Just wait for a response.

Perhaps you're not interested in doing any troubleshooting to fix your issue, or maybe you believe you've already done enough troubleshooting and now you just want to return it. That's fine. Feel free to ignore the rest of this post if this is you

On to the troubleshooting.

Mouse control not working with games on the Deck hasn't been widely covered because it's not a problem that many people have. Typically, it works just fine. There may be something specific to your mouse or your powered dock that's hindering your ability to play with a mouse.

The official Steam Deck dock isn't out yet, and will make connecting peripherals much easier. Mileage can vary with third party solutions. You could try a different mouse, or more likely a different powered USB C hub to solve the problem. You can also use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, which works beautifully thanks to the Deck's completely unrestricted Bluetooth 5.0 support.

For a dock, if you don't want to wait for Valve's official one, you might try the Jsaux Steam Deck Dock[www.pcgamesn.com]. It's designed with the Steam Deck specifically in mind, ensuring perfect compatibility and proper power delivery. It's about $40.

Or you can return it. Your choice. As rawWwRrr said:

8bitbeard: The solution is actually to run the games from the desktop. That really should be stickied somewhere with all of the threads about people not being able to get games to work with KB+M. None worked from the games menu, all worked from the desktop.

Hey. A solution was found. Brilliant. Does this mean you are keeping it, or did that experience sour you enough to still want to return it?
